  • SCSI <-> ATA/SATA Bridges on Amiga

    Hello everybody!

    I've lots of old SCSI disks for my Amigas, from Quantum LPS52 from my first A3000 to some SCA 73 GB disks.
    But nearly all have in common that they are quickly aging with a variety of errors: from normal badblocks that can't be mapped anymore, because they are too many, to losing their geometry information. Sometimes HDToolBox can't read even the geometry anymore, sometimes a lowlevel format helps, but both means a loss of data.

    My impression is that the heat inside of the A3000 is not good for the old disks and causing quick/sudden deaths.

    The idea is to buy some SCSI<->SATA/ATA bridges, but they are expensive:
    - ATA: Acard AEC-7720U for about 180.- EUR
    - SATA: Acard ARS-2000SUP for about 250.- EUR

    Do you have experience with this kind of SCSI bridges? Any feedback appreciated! :-)

    Heat is never good for HD's (old or new). I put some extra ventilation on the back of my A4000 near the HD's, because I found it getting to hot in there. I can't remember if it actually caused problems. This was maybe 2 decades ago. ;)
