• Indigenous Peoples' Day

From Lee Lofaso@2:221/360 to All on Sun Jul 5 21:03:36 2020
    Hello Everybody,

Another statue of Christopher Columbus bit the dust.
This one thrown into a river. After being toppled and
dismembered. By no less than 300 active participants.

Time to replace the federal holiday in his name replaced
with something far more appropriate. Which several states,
and scores of cities, have already done. What name did
these states and municipalities choose? Most of them have
    chosen Indigenous Peoples' Day.

    *Vermont
    *Maine
    *New Mexico
    *Alaska
    *South Dakota
    *Oregon
    *Hawaii
    *Louisiana
    *North Carolina
    *Iowa
    *Washington DC

Plus another 130 cities or so.

Time for the rest of the country to get on board. No excuse
for any more delay. Sure, Thomas Jefferson once proclaimed that
"All men are created equal." He was wrong. Just like Columbus.
We are all equal. Men and women, black and white, young and old.

We should have listened to Jesse Jackson when he told the truth
to the American people at the Democratic National Convention years
    ago - "I am somebody!"

Lemme tell you something, Mr. Jackson -

    "We are somebody!"

We are somebody. Each and every one of us, without exception.

Columbus set sail to find a New World. Enslaved all the indigenous
people he found in a vain effort to find gold, committing the first
act of genocide in the Americas.

His statue deserved to be removed. Although it should have been
done in a much more civilized manner. But other statues of his likeness
remain, and need to be removed. Sooner, rather than later.

This would make the world a far better place than it is today.

It's ok to just cancel the holiday instead of trying to fix it. Many indigenous people already have their own holidays anyway; they don't need non-natives racially appropriating them. Like we non-natives know what day is appropriate for their holiday? That's as funny as Chuck Schumer in Kente cloth!

Something that liberals would hate to know about natives, is that natives don't support illegal immigration. Watch the looks on their faces when Nancy Pelosi puts on her Kente cloth & "honors" native americans with a new holiday dedicated to them, taking place on Christopher Columbus' birthday! :)

I realize the Kente cloth is a Senegal thing, but Nancy thinks all brown people wear it.

You don't understand. Years ago, the state of Louisiana had to give
up Robert E. Lee Day in favor of Martin Luther King Day. Just to make
you know who happy. Now Native Americans want to have their own special
day, just like African Americans. Of course, this will not go well with Italians, who will be left no longer having a special day of their own.
So we might as well set up one day each year so that every group can
have its own special day. That way everybody will be happy.

During leap years we can have an extra special day for Leprechauns.

Christopher Columbus was Chinese, trying to find his way back home.
But there are some who claim he was a black man who had gotten lost
and confused, as nobody knew who his real parents were, or where
    they came from.

I realize the Kente cloth is a Senegal thing, but Nancy thinks all brown
    people wear it.

It is possible Columbus arrived from Senegal as a baby, as the
only thing certain being he was raised by a couple of unknown origin
in Genoa. Historians do not know what race he was. Only guesses.

I wasn't aware of this. With that in mind, why not erase MLK day too? It does nothing for us, and it's racially divisive. (Not saying MLK was racially divisive - but his time has passed and he's long gone.)

If we have MLK day & Indigenous people's day, then asians and latinos will feel left out. And if we create a holiday for every race, then nobody will ever go to work.
