For the first time in the history of Saudi Arabian aviation, a flight has been operated by an all-female crew. On Flyadeal Flight 117, from Riyadh to Jeddah, both the pilots and all cabin crew members were women last Friday.
The majority of the crew also had Saudi nationality. Saudi women have only recently been allowed to be cabin crew. Previously, the female cabin crew always had to be brought in from abroad.
Saudi Arabia has been modernizing in recent years. Women are now allowed to drive. They are now also entitled to their own passport and they no longer have to wear an abaya in public. However, there are still major differences between what men and women are allowed to do.
