    Possibly. My experience with them is that many pet cats have a tendency to
    do a lot of things that either don't seem to have purpose, or that are done
    out of spite.

    On the other hand, for a while I had a neighbor who had a cat that was a
    very good mouser. He kept the small rodent population down. My opinion of
    him is that he certainly had purpose. ;)

    I'm in a semi-rural area. We have a rodent population and two
    neighborhood cats who like hanging in our back yard. I'm OK with that.

    They are pretty funny. Somewhere out there, there is a video of a mountain lion (large, wild cat) playing with someones outdoor swing.

    There are also several with housecats reacting to printers, toasters, etc., that are also funny.

    This one was supposedly a wild cat that someone happened to pick up on a security or nature cam. We have actually had some reality TV shows about people who own wild cats. A lot of them really do act like housecats but,
    as you point out, if something goes wrong the magnitude of what happens
    could be increased dramatically.

    There's a guy on YouTube who lives in the woods and has a pit bull, a
    raccoon, and a coyote that all co-exist on his land and in his house.

    The alpha? A cat he's named "Murder Mittens". He chases them all around
    and terrorizes them.
