Dust storm in Chad

Pale plumes of dust rose from Chad’s Bodele Depression in the opening
days of October 2021. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer
(MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of
the blowing dust on October 1. One broad, dense plume blows to the
southwest while a thin haze of dust spreads to the southwest and
reaches the dark Lake Chad. The Bodele Depression sits south of the
Tibesti Mountains and is one of the world’s most active sources of dust
storms.
