is there a patch or update for golded to be able to reliably read synchronet's message base??

I have gotten golded to read sbbs message base but, the message base has allot of holes. lots of missing headers

also, anyone know of a way to read mystic's areas and genterate an areas file that golded can read??

That's the result I got several years ago when I did this.

Your best be with Synchronet is to use the -W command line option to write a goldarea.inc file to include in your config. Once you do that you'll need to go over that file and correct any errors and include that file in your golded.cfg and remove the "AREAFILE SBBS /sbbs/" line, or comment it out.

I don't know what the issue is with the SBBS support in golded but it seems to be incorrect or incomplete. If all your areas have the same internal code prefix I think you'll have better luck, but I doubt they are.

also, anyone know of a way to read mystic's areas and genterate an areas
    file
    that golded can read??

It's the same situation with Mystic. You need a goldarea.inc to include or just add AREADEF lines to your golded.cfg. There is no other way I know of.

"l" for me lists messages. Is that what you're referring to? If so, maybe threading is broken between the two?

DigitalMan/Rob Swindell has submitted patches for Golded in the past in order to help it work better with Synchronet. However, I'm unsure if those patches were ever actually added to the official sources. If not, Rob may still have them so you can patch Golded yourself, but I can't guarantee it will fix your current issue(s). ;)

yes l for listing messages, its not only in there but going from 1 message to another, if the header is damaged, and tap the right arrow to goto next message, your stuck.. will ask Rob Swindell about it

I just updated, it did fix the echomail areas, though my dovenet areas still have the issue... is there a way to compact/re-number dovenet areas??
I suspect its something to do with the fact that get several VERT.qwk.5ec1aed5.bad packets in my /sbbs/data folder
sbbs itself does not show an issue, neither does mystic - I get dovenet via sbbs & mystic gets it from sbbs

Re-numbering is generally a bad idea. But yes, you can re-number of with the 'fixsmb' utility. And you can pack the base with 'smbutil'.

I suspect its something to do with the fact that get several VERT.qwk.5ec1aed5.bad packets in my /sbbs/data folder

    Seems unlikely to be connected.

sbbs itself does not show an issue, neither does mystic - I get dovenet via sbbs & mystic gets it from sbbs

    Okay, good luck!

I read "problem with synchronet JAM areas" but "work great" doesn't match to problems?

I have HPT, & also mystic.. the only setup I have problems with is *synchronet*

JAM is a per area messagebase files. If synchronet can do squish then you could try to change one area from JAM to squish and see what happens. If golded can read squish based areas without problem then i would suspect the problem in synchronets JAM handling.

synchronet use its own message base format known as SMB (synchronet messge base format) ;)

JAM is good but there are things it could do better... same with pretty much every message base format i've ever seen used anywhere...
