Beginner count? I've always loved the bass, but just recently was able
to buy one and start messing with one. I am a trombone player, so I
read bass clef. Not really serious about it, just having fun playing
it.

I can say I am a beginner even though I have been playing guitar for
more than 60 years. The first epiphany I had was that the approach is
NOT the same but, I thought it would be a great tangent during the pandemic. In as much as you are focusing on rhythm and harmony, what an excellent approach to theory! I have to focus on the beat and stay away from melody. Technique is not the same if you stay away from using a
pick. I could say that guitar is more like singing and bass is more
like dancing! So far I am humbled by how much noise I make from the strings I do not intend to hear because I am not damping them properly.
I play bass like I play 'rythem guitar' - that is, with runs and such
(big bluegrass background). I CAN keep a straight beat, and if the song calls for it, sure, but I like to 'walk' a two step or western swing.
:-) Fun stuff!

I have a friend from my teen years who played bass in a rock band. As
an adult, he progressed to bluegrass guitar. Now in his 60s, he has a
band who was nominated for an album during the pandemic. His name is
Roger Cline and his album is "So Inclined" and can be found on Amazon.
I'm quite impressed by the individuality of the songs and the
production. It's gives me hope that we can still pursue our dreams as older adults. --- SBBSecho 3.11-Win32
