• Ziggo reverse DNS

From Michiel van der Vlist@2:280/5555 to All on Thu Mar 28 01:13:16 2019
    Hello All,

Until recently my ISP had all their IPv6 adresses reverse resolved to "ipv6.dynamic.ziggo.nl".

    Now I resolve to

    "2001-1c02-1103-e900-f1d0-0002-0280-5555.cable.dynamic.v6.ziggo.nl"

    Cheers, Michiel

    "2001-1c02-1103-e900-f1d0-0002-0280-5555.cable.dynamic.v6.ziggo.nl"

Better. But not as good as my he.net and kuusitunneli.fi tunnels: I can
    set my own reverses. :)

"Better" is good enough for me for now. I prefer native IPv6 without configurable rev DNS over tunneled IPv6 with configurable rev DNS.

Tunnels are good. Native is better.

So can I, my ISP actually allows me to delegate reverse DNS for my IPv6 prefix to any DNS servers I choose. :)

Native with your own reverse DNS is even better. :)

There is always something beter. But I consider configurable rev DNS a bit of a vanity thing, It is my understanding that some things will not work propely without rev DNS, and that having all IPv6 addresses resolve to the same symbolic host name is a kludge that may cause other problems. So I am glad that my ISP now has unique rev DNS for all their entire IPv6 prefix range.

Configurable rev DNA is too low on my wish list to change poviders.

    Hi Michiel!

30 Mar 2019 12:00, from Michiel van der Vlist -> Tony Langdon:

It is my understanding that some things will not work propely without
    rev DNS

The only thing that comes to my mind is mailservers. (you will get SPAM points from mailasssassin for not having a matching reverse DNS)
But then again ... running them on dynamic IPs is not a good idea.

Apart from that nothing else comes to my mind.

That's right. If you try to send mail to google via ipv6, you must have correct reverse dns.

... running them on dynamic IPs is not a good idea.

And one more reason to have static address via tunnel.:)

Might be the most practical for dynamic or privacy IPs, given the huge address space. I unly have reverse DNS for my configured static IPx.

Configurable rev DNA is too low on my wish list to change poviders.

Yeah, it's not really a biggie.
