    Got a e-mail from him yesterday.
    Power is slowly being restored and he should be back home around Tuesday.
    Insurance approved part of his claim but he has nearly $1,000 in food and lodging he has to pay for.
    He hopes to be back online soon.

    i don't know his situation but i'd have done everything i could to have stayed in place and been cooking over a fire of some sort... i'm not in the condition i was years back but i'd still try if i were able to exist outside without the heat/cold/humidity doing me in...

    He hopes to be back online soon.

    Combination of all the above, plus thunderstorms, etc.
    He seems to have the worst weather related luck.
    I had visited him just a day or two before the storm.
    I had been in the Dayton/Toledo area the day before their big storm in

    I think some of it has to with his unrelated health issues.
    But I'm like you, I would have tried to make do at home as well.
    I would have gone places where I could charge up portable items and just
    cut back on unnecessary usage.
    Of course working in security I would have been called up (even in retirement) to help out here and there where businesses, etc, would be closed and
    needed extra coverage.
    The last time that happened was on 9/11 and put in long hours for nearly
    two weeks till things calmed down.

    As I wrote Steve Wolfe hopefully his power will be restored this week
    (the power company has had their hands full replacing downed lines, blown transformers, etc).
    He has no idea when or if his BBS will be back up and running.

    The Hara Arena, home to "Dayton Hamvention", the "mecca" for U.S. Ham
    Radio operators, was heavily damaged by a tornado. But, the event had
    moved to the Greene County Fairgrounds in Xenia a couple of years ago.

    If it hadn't been so hot and humid inside, I would've stayed here.

    That adds fuel to the fire...no pun intended.

    I was able to charge the smartphone at the hotel, but didn't want to
    take my laptop there. I figured I'd catch up message wise, when I got
    back online.

    Heat I can handle, cold not so much.

    I'm the opposite. I can put another blanket on if I get chilly.

    He has no idea when or if his BBS will be back up and running.

    It was 2 1/2 weeks too long.

    I did get home July 2, but the electrician was originally given the
    wrong size internal panel (it and the outside meter had to be replaced).
    But, power was back on that night.

    As noted in previous messages, the insurance companies consider it a catastrophe if they have to pay a claim. But, they considered the house
    still "livable", since it had running water, and there was no other
    damage. I want to know how one can consider being inside a structure
    with apparent temperatures above 100 degrees as "livable".

    It was wind damage related. There were reports of 4 inch diameter
    hailstones in west Arkansas, and tornadoes in southeast Arkansas.

    I had no BBSing, ham radio, etc. for over 2 weeks...talk about
    withdrawl.
