Me neither. I've been revisiting my stash of purchased CDs.
Some songs that I might have skipped back in the original days
I now find interesing and appealing.
Some "new" (they are covers) music I liked this year:

They are all from the same TV show...

I like the singer in the yellow top. I don't know what those
two ladies were singing about, but they clearly demonstrated
fine command of the voice and pitch.
I did not care too much for Anneke van Giersbergen - Jest Oldu
too much. That voice was a bit too screetchy for me.
You might also like the rock/commercial works of Sara
Brightman.
Another fine Sara is Sara Bareilles. Check out her songs "She
Used to Be Mine", "Orpheus", and the duet with John Legend, "A
Safe Place To Land".
What is the premise of the show?
Who are the people seated in front and why are they important?
That must be an awesome studio with the live band and intimate
setting.
I recall seeing an episode of this years ago on YT and the
featured singer was the then yet-unknown recent singer of
Nightwish.

Someone in another echo mentioned the music of Final Fantasy.
Never heard of it. It think it's the OST of a computer game or
something. The samples I tried remind me of Two Steps From
Hell, Gregorian, and Yanni (all of which I have some recordings
of). Some are interesting pieces and stand quite well enough
alone. Some of it can be good bkgrnd music to chill and relax.
One album that I find revisiting is Robert Cray's "Strong
Persuader".
Jennifer Warned new release "The Well" is excellent.

I'm also revisiting a lot of old artists lately. That's where all the
good music seems to be where it's at.
In the past few years I've seen Cheap Trick/Poison,
Erasure, Howard Jones, Phil Collins, Genesis, Steve
Hackett, Squeeze/Hall & Oates, Jean Michel, Jarre, Mark
Knopfler. Upcoming A-ha, Adam Ant, OMD, Pet Shop Boys with
New Order, and Steve Hackett again.
I'm sure I've missed a few.

And.. all of the above were in Texas?
Never got into Steve Hackett or Lyle Lovett though. The rest I've
heard and liked as well.

As a Canadian you don't know any French?

I think it's about a woman who is love sick.

It was better with the original video from the show where you could see the emotions of the people but that unfortunatly got blocked, because of a copyright claim by the original composer... I saved it so, if you...
;)
Anneke is our grand lady of Rock, although she would probably be
offended by that title. ;-)
She was the inspiration for Floor Jansen to go in the same musical direction.
Check out this one from the 25 anniversary concert with her original band:

Or this duet:

And tell me you still don't like her singing? ;-)

I had the top marks in French in high school! ;) ..but I
never quite mastered conversational french.
I'm still not quite convinced that she is a great singer. She
definitely has talent and conviction, but.. something is still
missing.
One Canadian rock/pop singer that made a fairly big splash
during the last 80's is Luba. The voice is baritone, but
powerful.
Check out this live performance of one her hits:

Let's agree we have different tastes. ;-)

Noted. Luba clearly wasn't the best challenge/comparison with
your Anneke. :( But I was primarily highlighting the
performers ability to deliver a piece with emotion. I thought
the melody was pretty darn good too.
Does you Anneke write music too? ..or is she just an
interpretive singer?
