Google is going to not allow less secure apps to access their platform next month.. Is there a way around this for using the password reset function? I chose Gmail back in the day when this feature was introduced because the docs pretty much said it was simpler to use. Can we use a regular email account?
General Options --> SMTP Password.

On 09 Apr 2022, Al DeRosa said the following...It is known that microsoft expects a few thing just for allowing you to send mail to outlook.com,hotmail.com and so accounts.

Just about any e-mail provider which accepts SMTP message submission should work, I think.
However -- if I recall correctly -- when speaking to the SMTP server, Mystic will say:
MAIL FROM: <sysop@yourbbsdomain.here>
...and it will also (in the message headers, i.e., as part of the
message data) state:
From: <sysop@yourbbsdomain.here>
...where yourbbsdomain.here is the value of Servers --> General Options
Domain Name.
This might cause some e-mail services to refuse the message -- even
though Mystic authenticates itself to the SMTP server using the credentials from Servers --> General Options --> SMTP Login and Servers
General Options --> SMTP Password.
I know Microsoft's outlook.com e-mail service refuse such messages, for example.
In my case, I had to configure Mystic to submit the e-mails to my locally-listening-and-relaying SMTP server on my Linux box instead, and have that one rewrite sysop@scbbs.nsupdate.info in the message data to match the actual e-mail address of the outlook.com account... And let it relay the e-mail to outlook.com, authenticating with the outlook.com account credentials.
So there might be some pitfalls, but in any case, it's worth trying out another e-mail provider.For other smtp servers and mail providers it is not enough just using TLS. You will have to configure DKIM keys and dns entries, SPF entries as well, a reverse dns pointing to your mail server, a good reputation on RBL lists, and so on.

What does less secure mean in this situation? Mystic supports TLS 1.2 over its SMTP if that is what you mean.
You can use any SMTP server that will accept the messages. I'll have to see if I can get some time to look at whatever their changes they are making are.
Hello Al!
Just about any e-mail provider which accepts SMTP message submission should work, I think.

MAIL FROM: <sysop@yourbbsdomain.here>
an aol account or on my cable account email. Those work fine, Google is losing money so they are pushing people to spend when this stuff should
be free..
Thanks for the info...
