Okay thanks for providing your setup. It looks like you're setting Mystic up to connect to its own SMTP server.

In order for e-mail to be sent out you have to have access to an external SMTP server from a mail provider, so Mystic can send mail to it. Most people used to use Gmail but I am not sure if Google still allows it for free.

Yeah, I actually run my own outbound SMTP server which then connects to a third party SMTP delivery provider which happens to be SMTP2GO. You might want to look into signing up with them as I believe they have a free use option.

    Thanks!

I did know about that and I have suggested SMTP2GO to a handful of people as an alternative to Google's SMTP. But I would still like to get some time to see what exactly it is that Google has changed so that I can make adjustments in Mystic if needed!

Hopefully in the next week or two life should get better for me so I can go back to working a bit more on BBS stuff!

I have everything setup by the docs and could be the issue? Is python used to call the validation script file or how does it work please? I am trying to figure out why it's not working when I tried every possible combination talked about this echo.

    Thanks

Just a quick update, for what it's worth I tried everything to get the apps password working before Googles new rules went into effect and couldn't. Just tried it again and now it works perfectly.. Don't know what is different but it does work..

Hello guys, i found this discussion on google group beacause i have same problem.... @Robert Wolfe @Jay Harris
I am going crazy but i can't i can't get it to work, i tried all, with and without LTS, plain, login but nothing.
Strange thing is that linux logs don't write anything about using the sendmail command, it's like mystic doesn't use it so I can't see what the problem is; just mystic error.log write a minimal "Could not connect to SMTP server".
I use my domain's SMTP standard server, i already configured my evolution client with same data and it work fine to send trought this SMTP but mystic nothing...
    Please help me :-(

    Some step forward here....
Mystic use its code to send email trought an external SMTP, so is't not an OS/sendmail misconfiguration problem and then I was able to completely remove sendmail* from my OS.
On my firewall (in real time filter) I saw that requests on ports 587 and 465 are sent to theexternal SMTP server so the problem was certainly authentication. I switched SSL/TLS from yes to no and changed port to standard 25 and it worked, then the problem is cryptlib related, i think; i use 3.4.5.0 compilend under Ubuntu server 22.04 and g++ 9 (is't the only way to compile it under my os).
g00r00 what do you think about?

Doesn't Mystic have it's own SMTP daemon built into MIS?

Yes, I discovered this by doing a lot of tests and interrogating my firewall. On Mystic wiki talk abount sendmail (generic) so I thought it was referring to my os's sendmail...
Anyway problem solved; using google password for app it work
Thanks to all, your advice is very useful ;-)
