Dear Mystic BBS Sysops,

I have recently setup a new Mystic BBS running under Xubunto and looking to connect to other FidoNet and other potential community groups.

I assume I would have to setup somehow via EchoMail configuration but at a
loss on how to get started and if/what I need outside of the Mystic software
to support this.

I attempted to view the policy guide on fidonet.org but it was last updated
in 1989 so hoping there is some up to date process and hopefully someone else running under Xubunto/Linux that can help point me in the right direction :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I run my Mystic BBS under Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Server (Linux) and have a few networks connected.

I don't know what this policy document is for that you mention, but if you
want to learn more about what Mystic can do, either look at the videos mentioned above or hit up: http://wiki.mysticbbs.com

Just after I posted this I started digging around for more info and came
across his videos. I currently just finished 3 of the videos on connecting to
a message network with Mystic BBS and they have been fantastic so far. Typically I try to avoid YouTube videos and look for text guides but his
videos are top notch! Straight and to the point and broken up into easily digestible parts.

I am currently going through the fsxNet tutorial and can at least see echomail processing inbound/outbound via mutil and fidopoll.

Once I make sure fsxNet is properly working I will move onto connecting with Netmail/FidoNet and more.

I hope this is some help to you, and anyone else who has needed the same info but has yet to ask for it =)

I'll update as I make more progress -- for now I have the fsxNet message
groups hidden until I can make sure everything is stable and sorted.

One question I do have and maybe he goes over it in the later videos but how often should we run FIDOPOLL and MUTIL for import/export of echomail as a
best practice?

I have a feeling you will have had this answered by now but running each as
an event called by a semaphore is a good move.

The importing/exporting of echomail can happen in realtime if you desire it, Mystic will create semaphore files to trigger an event, and the Mystic Events editor will allow you to get it sending and checking as often as you wish to configure it, this will all be explained in Paul's videos too, mutil is
pretty powerful, combined with the Events editor you can make it do some
pretty cool things pretty much out of the box.

Haha, I replied to this before checking further in the list of messages lol. What Paul said above, I think I may have gone into a touch more detail, but just to reiterate; Paul's videos are an absolute Godsend, and you will no
doubt have ALL your answer to the most asked questions by any new SysOp explained in the videos.

Paul really has done a great and thorough job in the videos, and as far as I
am concerned, this among many other things has contributed to him being a legend in the BBS community. I'll certainly be buying him a number of beers when I meet him one day that is for sure =)

Well I have to agree with Christian as the large scale Internet seems to have scarce details on these subjects (at least that are easy to find) and your videos got me up and running sending test echomail messages in no time.

Now just waiting to get my application approved for fsxNet (wink wink) :)
then on to fidonet and hopefully some inter BBS gaming.
