The peace talks are a lot of hot air and little substance.
Putin doesn't want to make a single concession and Ukraine only needs time to defeat Russia.
Besides, everyone knows that Putin cannot be trusted, and security guarantees from other countries can be used to wallpaper all the houses in Ukraine, but they mean nothing. After all, they already have those guarantees from Russia, the U.S., and China. How much have they been worth? In 1994, those countries solemnly promised to guarantee the freedom and security of Ukraine. Even Putin later ratified that. His word is worthless.
So all those talks are just to appease the U.S. For Putin, it's to frustrate aid to Ukraine and get sanctions removed, and for Zelensky, it's to be able to buy weapons, as the hope that the U.S. will still provide weapons has vanished.
Trump is doing everything he can to get a Nobel Prize. In his eyes, that is the crown of his life. However, the chance that he, as a 38-time convicted criminal with numerous disgraceful acts to his name—such as stopping USAID, January 6, 2020, his racism, and his plan for genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza, the betrayal of the Kurds, to name a few—will receive that prize would normally be nil. If he does get that prize, then Norway will lose all credibility for it.
So they will continue to appease and fight.
