• DOWNTIME FOR SURGERIES

    ----------------------------------------
Due to my upcoming outpatient surgery for urinary bladder stone
removal, The Thunderbolt BBS will be TEMPORARILY OFFLINE from Feb. 7-9,
2020. The surgery is on Feb. 7, but I won't feel like doing much of
anything for a couple of days after the surgery, with extended
sleep/rest, and a light diet the likely recommendation afterwards.

Also, with recent attacks of angina (chest pain)...some severe...I
have been to both a local Emergency Room, and to my cardiologist, in the
last several weeks. Both feel that the angina is NOT heart related...but
acid reflux (GERD) related...because none of the lab work, etc. showed
any signs of a heart attack. Plus, I don't get "short of breath" with
one of my other hobbies...square dancing...so, that's a good sign. Three
hours of square dancing is equivalent to walking six miles.

Along this line, I have contacted my gastrointerologist, but I'm
currently awaiting a callback. While I had both an upper GI (EGD) and
lower GI (colonoscopy) done in 2018, I'm not due for a colonoscopy for
another year (2021). However, he may want me to undergo an upper GI
    (EGD).

Normally, Medicare won't pay for a procedure unless it's done 367
days apart. This is why in prepping for a procedure, one does the prep
work right...because if it has to be done again, the patient has to pay
the entire cost of the procedure!!

Unlike the colonoscopy, where one has to clean out the colon with
purgatives and spent much of the prep time "on the porcelain throne",
the main prep work for the bladder stone removal surgery, and the upper
GI procedure, will only be nothing to eat or drink after midnight the
    night before the surgery.

At present, I do not know the date for the upper GI (EGD) procedure.
But, the BBS will likely be offline for a similar 3 day window.

I likely will also have my phone in "do not disturb mode" until I feel better...which I hope is not more than 24 to 48 hours after the
    procedure.

To all my mail hubs, I will poll for packets (FTN and QWK) once I
    bring the BBS back online.

Sorry for any inconvenience...your understanding is appreciated.

Thankfully, I didn't need a catheter. The burning didn't last as long
as the previous time (plus they didn't give me Lasix afterwards). But,
that hard exam table and gurney got me contorted so (I know how women
feel in having a pelvic exam done, in the stirrups)...that it pinched a
nerve in the left hip down into the leg. So, I've had to use a walker
    since Friday.

When I had the upper GI, even though the colonoscopy wasn't done (it's
not due until April, 2021), because of degenerative disk disease, and
the pressure of my clothes on the bones, plus the pinched nerve, I got
naked for the upper GI procedure. The arthritis hurts so, that I'm lucky
to just be able to do the BBS QWK Mail.

Yeah...I could be in a vegetative state, not able to speak or do
anything else. There are so many folks in far worse shape than I am.

The weather is still stormy, but I got a few days of dry weather. With COVID-19, the hernia surgery was postponed, but they are to lift the ban
on outpatient elective surgery on Monday.

I think in the last 2 months, only 2 weeks of that time (in total
days) has been "dry"...we've had thunderstorms the rest of the time.
And, last night, once again, portions of Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, were blasted by tornadoes.

A few years ago, I had to be ambulanced to the Emergency Room, due to
severe bladder spasms and pain with the catheter. I was screaming and in
tears (never mind naked on the hard ER table). These 2 good looking
female nurses walked in, and said "You're not going to like us". I said
"I'll kiss you if you'll make the pain go away". They said "We have
medicine for the pain, but it's an OVERSIZED SUPPOSITORY". They gave a
whole new meaning to the phrase "SHOVE IT!!"...but it did the trick!!

For openers, COVID-19 or cancer. :)

I'm not blind, deaf, and don't have a speech impediment, but I have at
    least 40 medical conditions.
