• Upgrading Synchronet to 3.18 on Windows

    From Exciter@1:103/705 to All on Tue Sep 8 19:44:01 2020
    I was following the 'process for upgrading from cvs to git version of synchronet' thread but those instructions look like they are for linux (rasp). Are there any instructions for Windows 32bit?

    Sure, download the .zip files as documented here: http://wiki.synchro.net/install:dev

    You don't need to use Git.

    I now have 3.18b installed and just have a few problems. I watched your video on the new version and am not finding the 1 line in sbbs.ini to enable echickens web interface.

    It's the "Root" key in the [web] section. Set it to "../web/root" for the Legacy/Runemaster Web UI. Set it to "../webv4/root" for the ecwebv4.

    Also, my board doesn't show up in
    sbbsimsg.lst even though I'm listed in the sbbs systems on VERT and on my board.

    The requirements are listed here: http://wiki.synchro.net/module:sbbsimsg#requirements

    One other thing, is it possible if running synch as a service to have doors open non-minimized when launched?

    Yes, add XTRN_MINIMIZED to the Options list of [BBS] Options in the ctrl/sbbs.ini file. In fact, that's enabled by default:

    Options = XTRN_MINIMIZED | ALLOW_RLOGIN | ALLOW_SSH

    Yes, except that I have c:\sbbs\webv4 not \sbbs\sbup\webv4

    The requirements are listed here: http://wiki.synchro.net/module:sbbsimsg#requirements

    Pretty sure I have those requirements. And your scan ports from that page shows I have 11 & 18 open.

    TCP or UDP?

    According to sbbslist.json:

    "last_success": {
    "on": "2020-09-28T07:03:08.741Z",
    "result": "Synchronet BBS for Win32 Version 3.18",
    "stopcause": "Poll timeout reached: 10 seconds",
    "service": {
    "protocol": "telnet",
    "address": "exciter.ws",
    "port": 23
    },
    "ip_address": "24.237.52.70",
    "other_services": {
    "tcp": [
    "msp",
    "smtp",
    "pop3",
    "irc"
    ],
    "udp": []
    }
    }
    that means there was no systat service responding via UDP at 3:08 AM, PDT, today.
    Port 11 is open UDP and Port 18 is open TCP.

    Doesn't seem to be, at least, not right now. You can test for yourself at http://cvs.synchro.net/scanmyports.ssjs?exciter.us

    Absolutely weird. I had port 11 forwarded but it wasn't working. I deleted the forwarding and re-enabled and now it seems to be open.

    Yeah, just a couple typos on my part. I guess the next step would be to look at the web server log output and see what it displays when you attempt to hit it with a web browser. Is it possible you have another/different web server listening on port 80?

    I just tried it again from here and everything failed except TCP port 80. And http://exciter.us:80 is clearly not a Synchronet web server.

    Yeah I have something else on port 80. I use 8080 for the web. However I just ran you port scanning tool and it shows ports 11, 18 & 79 are open.
