Actually, I had it installed as a non-root user and kept having the same issues with it, so I deleted it and reinstalled as root user.

Generally, you should not run software in Linux as root, especially something like Synchronet which allows users to connect remotely. And normally you shouldn't need to run software as root anyway. If you're running something like Synchront as root and someone happens to gain access to a command prompt on your system, they could potentially do very bad things since they'd basically be running things as root.

You said before that sbbs just wasn't running? Nothing happened? When you run sbbs on the command line, did it just exit back to the command line? Did you see any errors or anything?

You should *not* install sbbs as root.

    root user.

    1. you dont wanna be running it as the root user

    2. permission errors for ports can be fixed by setcap (see the wiki or google)

    3. permission errors for files could be because you have them as root and not sbbs (or w/e user you compiled it under).

to be honest, sounds like a bad compile/install

When it finished compiling, it said there was one error, but it was ignored. --- SBBSecho 3.11-Win32
