The Koi Fish Galaxy (evening)
Another overlooked gem in Coma Berenices that is within reach of most telescopes under dark skies is the magnitude 10 Koi Fish Galaxy, or NGC 4559. It is an oblique, intermediate spiral galaxy located 2 degrees east-southeast of ? Com. A larger aperture telescope will reveal its spiral arms as an asymmetrical halo aligned northwest- southeast, replete with glowing star- forming regions in astrophotographs. The galaxy is approximately 30 light- years away.
