• Redditors (and Apple Macs)

From Nightfox@21:1/137 to All on Sat Aug 9 18:33:15 2025
I saw a comment on Reddit where someone said "The last time Apple sold a computer under the Macintosh name was a quarter of a century ago." Ehh, Apple's computers are still called Mac, which is short for Macintosh.. Sometimes I don't know where some people on Reddit get their information.

    End mini-rant..

There was also a time on Reddit where I posted an old photo of mine that I had taken in 1998 with a film camera. I had scanned it on my PC from the negative (I still have the negatives from that & other rolls of film I had developed), and someone on Reddit commented on it that it looked too good to be an old film photo, so he thought it was from a digital camera. Also, he tried to argue that all film cameras stamped the date/time onto the photo - which isn't even true; that feature didn't come around until later, and usually you could toggle it on/off too. He didn't see the timestamp in my photo, which he thought was further "proof" that it was from a digital camera. My photo actually did have a timestamp on it, which someone else pointed out to him, and he accepted he had been corrected.

Reddit is weird sometimes. There was a post on there months ago from someone light heartedly seeking advice because they had to do a bowel prep (i.e. enema) the day before some surgery.

I replied saying I'd had the same thing, agreed with others saying it doesn't feel like it's working until it *definitely* does and saying the one thing that caught me by surprise is how long I was stuck in the bathroom, until about 4am actually, and I got very cold so maybe take a blanket or an old towel in with you.

Got downvoted. I still have no idea why.

I never had a camera that put the time stamp on the actual photo until I
got a digital camera. All the film cameras I had never even had that
    option.

I don't know if it was the camera or the place they got them developed, but some of the photos my family has from around the time I was born, and the
first couple of years of my life, do have dates in the white "margins" that surround the photo. I haven't looked at one in a while, but I think it was
the month and year, along with a small logo (a greyhound?).

I'm surprised an overzealous moderator didn't flag your post for not
having the correct Flair, or otherwise not following some obscure rule.

I've had that happen in some subreddits.. And sometimes they use auto-moderator bots that will immediately flag and remove your post.

Been there, done that, clean as a whistle! I was lucky in that I didn't have to check in to the Hotel Toidy. I think I had maybe three or four more visits than normal, that's it.

I've done a ColoGuard twice now. I don't know if it's as good, but I'm low risk and this was pretty easy. Actually, I've done it 3 times, once the test was expired for some reason so that year I had to send in 2 samples...

Doctors are recommending it, so why not.

I've done it once, and yes, it's simple.

Hey, while we're on the topic, you know what a fun slogan would be for ColoGuard?

I did that a while ago, but I read that it still might not be as good as a colonoscopy. I read someone say he used Cologuard but it wasn't until he had a colonoscopy when they found something, which ended up being serious enough to remove.

I've noticed something about this. Either people are associating the thumbs down with just a general reaction to the situation/story, or they just /have/ to "react" somehow and they don't feel like a "thumbs up" is appropriate. My that's just my take on inexplicable downvotes.

Yeah, I sometimes wonder if clicking "like" in a situation where the person
is describing something bad that happened to them is appropriate -- is it a sign of support for them, or a sign that I am glad the bad thing happened?

I guess where my confusion really comes in is where someone shares
something that is bad because it is bad... like Politician X did Y thing.
They share it because they think it is bad, so I am never sure if I should upvote it (send them good vibes for sharing the news) or downvote it (bad
vibes to the person that caused the bad news).

FB makes it a little easier... I can react with a sad or mad face. ;)

I got a Roll Film Camera in the early 1950's and had the film developed at a Drugs Store nearby.
They used Acorn company to process and make prints.

I don't think the Month Year was shown at the bottom of the prints in the early 50's but do remember seeing it added to the photos in the later 50's.

Of course the film negative didn't have that feature way back then.

My last film camera i bought in the '70's didn't do that either.
Only until I started using a digital camera did I see the Instant the picture was made.
