One way I've been successful with compiling stuff for the Pi is runni Raspbian in QEMU. You then have the power and I/O of your server and arm architecture to build the Pi packages. I found that to be a real good dev scenario as well as it's all enclosed and easy to snapshot, backup, etc.

Thank you for this. I had not through about trying an ARM emulator.

Are their Raspbian images that I can download for QEMU already or would I need to build this on my own? I suppose I can just Google a bit and see what I can find.

Here is a quick guide I found, I did something similar in the past but apparently never documented it myself.

    https://azeria-labs.com/emulate-raspberry-pi-with-qemu/

That will still possibly bring up the issue of getting the files from
the Pi to my main development system, but worst case scenario I'll just set it up to FTP the files directly to mysticbbs.com.

You can install cifs-utils and mount a Windows drive directly from Raspbian if your dev system is Windows. Otherwise sshfs can be another good option if
your dev system is Linux. FTP would be my last resort but would work too, it's just less "transparent". The good news, there is multiple options.

    Cheers!
