Re: UHD Blu-Rays and PCs...

From what I've read, these are only playable on Intel 7th-10th gen with built-in intel gpu. Is this true? Is there any way around this?
I looked into this a few years ago, and from what I can tell, it's true. It's because of the tech stack Intel uses - Specifically, Intel's integrated graphics and SGX (Software Guard Extensions) enable an encrypted data path through the system, which is used by UHD Blu-Ray playback to try to prevent screen captures & other means to copy the video during playback.
Unfortunately, it requires the right combination of hardware and drivers. And it means if you're using a dedicated (non-Intel) graphics card, UHD playback won't work. Although my PC could technically support it, the fact that I'm using an Nvidia graphics card means I can't play UHD blu-ray discs in my PC.
AMD systems don't have all the same or equivalent technologies, which means UHD blu-ray playback is impossible on AMD systems.
These days, I tend to rip my UHD blu-ray movies to copy them onto my Plex media server, so I'm more concerned about that than being able to play the discs on my PC.
