There's an acknowledged bug in Defender whereby history items
continually get thrown in your face.
The solution given by MS is to delete the scans folder, C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Service. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-remove-protection-history-of-windows/6080b1fb-b95a-40b6-970c-c4321281b656

How do I get access to that folder? It's out of bounds to my
    Administrator account.

I got in there using the Macrium Rescue CD and its Command Prompt.
At a guess, it's possible the Command Prompt in Troubleshooting of
the Windows installer DVD might also work.

Since the picture-taking in the Macrium 7 I'm using, seems busted,
I tried executing GIMP off the C: drive, and the crusty version I
used, works. Here you can see me gaining access to those folders.

I could then try a "del long-string-of-stuff" and maybe that
would work. Some of the numbered folders in there are empty,
    only a couple have content.

For once, Paul, I feel capable of talking with some confidence to you
    about a Windows problem.
Allow me a moment of glory; until you shoot me down, that is (:

I usually use a Linux distro for these kinds of problems, but I realised
that I had other OSes on that drive; so I booted into the Tiny 11, and
deleted the folder from there. Then back to the Win10 OS, and all is
    well. It worked.

Other solutions to the problem occurred to me; the principal being to
install a third-party AV such as AVG or Avast. But that would leave
clutter; and clutter is as much a pain in cyberspace as it is on our
    streets.

Launch cmd prompt as Administrator then type this:

    cd C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Service>

Now del everything from this folder but before you can delete anything,
you'll need to disable windows security for a minute or so. You do this
from the Windows Security App that you can launch from the sys-tray on
the bottom right corner of your screen. Let me know if you need an image
    for this.

I assume you know how to del files from the command prompt.

Thanks for the help. I've managed to delete that folder from another OS
on the same system, and everything is fine now.
