• Relatives over for the holidays want to watch movies

From Tony T@21:1/5 to All on Wed Dec 25 20:21:15 2024
I have a relative over for the holidays who wants to watch movies on her
iPad and all I have are Windows computers to get ripped DVDs onto it.

She wants to watch about a dozen old movies like "It's a Wonderful Life" & "Harvey" & "The Maltese Falcon" & "The African Queen" & "Wizard of Oz" &
"To Kill a Mockingbird" & "Arsenic and Old Lace" & "Casablanca" & so on.

When I plugged in the USB it doesn't work like Android where you can just
copy the ripped DVD onto the TF card. There's no TF on her iPad and all
Windows can see is the iPad DCIM directory which is only outgoing transfer.

How do you copy lots of movies using the USB cable from Windows to iPad?

I don't know anything about iPads, but some of those movies should
be at archive.org due to being out of copyright.

But if you have them on Windows, with a 42" screen, why
would she want to watch them on a rinky dink tablet?

Depending on your TV you can project directly from the Iphone to the TV.
I do it all of the time with my Windows Computer. I project the
videos that I have downloaded from my Trail Camera.

I know my daughter who has an Iphone has projected things on her phone
    to my TV.

I have an older Samsung TV, but I believe that any TV that is considered
Smart, can connect directly to your computer

You would think setting up a server and streaming the movie
to the iPad would be as easy.

Windows Media Player Legacy (WMP) streaming server mode ==> iPad

VLC streaming server mode ==================================> iPad

    Something like that.

And for dessert, one of these.

If your streaming server is mysterious, that thing
can list the file tree on the streaming server. On one
occasion, it gave me the name of the top of the tree,
and that was enough to figure out what to access on
    the Client program for playback.

My Windows 10 setup on the FiveFan machine has put up
the "Get Windows 11" Band across the screen, so I can't
use the machine at the moment.

I use FE File Explorer Pro ($4.99) installed on the iPad to transfer
files to and from Windows machines via wifi. No usb cable needed.

I thought that thing had completed its mission
and gone back to base, but I guess not.

Why can the software not sniff the machine and see
there is a Windows 11 partition already on it ?
changing the W10 partition to w11 would give two
W11 partitions. Then I would hear everything in stereo.
