• Gmailify

From Jim the Geordie@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jan 26 13:21:18 2025
I have 5 email accounts: my domain, my provider, 1 hotmail (which I
never mail from), 1 personal Gmail and one 'group' Gmail.
I currently use Betterbird as my client on my smartphone.

I just got a text extolling the virtues of 'Gmailify'. Clearly, clarity
is not one of their virtues as reading the text and looking at a video,
it just seemed more confusing than my present setup.
Can anyone who uses it or has tried it and does no longer use it, put me
    in the picture.

'Gmailify' is both a term used by *Google* and a *seperate*
company/service (gmailify.com). So before proceeding, please say *which*
of the two you are referring to.

'Gmailify: The best of Gmail, without an @gmail address' <https://blog.google/products/gmail/gmailify-best-of-gmail-without-gmail/>

'Unlimited Email Addresses On Your Own Domain, With Gmail' <https://www.gmailify.com/>
    "Not Your Google's Gmailify
Gmail has an own feature named Gmailify. It serves a different purpose
though, linking Outlook and Yahoo accounts with Gmail. We link Gmail
with custom domains instead. The name conflict is coincidental."

There's something wrong w/ that, in terms of 'stepping on the other's toes'.

It seems that google wouldn't let a mail service company 'come along'
and brand themselves as 'gmailify' AND, if the company WERE able to get
some kind of trademark on gmailify even tho' it does confuse w/ the
google brand gmail, then google wouldn't be able to promote ITS gmailify.

That is, there's something wrong that the land sharks haven't duked out yet.

I have not tried the 'Gmailify' function, but a long, long time ago, I
used the 'Add a mail account' function in the settings of the Gmail
web-mailer, which is one of the first steps in the Gmailify process [1].
With that first step, one can retrieve e-mail from other e-mail
accounts. I also configured 'Send mail as:' to send e-mail from these
    other accounts.

Since then, I have configured all my accounts in (Windows) Thunderbird because all my MSPs (Mail Service Providers) allow their POP/IMAP/SMTP
servers to be used on other (than the currently used ISP network), so I
no longer use the Gmail 'Add a mail account'/'Send mail as:' functions.

Given your scenario, using Betterbird on your smartphone, I see no
advantages of using Gmailify (or just retrieving/sending e-mail), unless
you want to be able to use the Gmail web-mailer when you can *not* use
your smartphone, for example on any other device which has a
    web-browser.

    Hope this helps.
