You need to go your Windows Settings. It is under Apps >> default Apps

Now you need to choose Microsoft Edge or Firefox or Google Chrome.
(At first I thought he was seeing this popup only at startup, but it seems he's getting it at other times too.)

I agree with you, don't install Acrobat - or anything else, even if it's free - if you don't need it, especially if you already have something that does all it does.
Same result via Control Panel Programs & Features and Installed

Adobe's Acrobat and Acrobat Reader are two different programs.
The Acrobat full featured product comes in two flavors Standard and Pro.

guess so that if I don't pay, he'll sic the state police on me. (I left

No, the reason is that it is a restricted medication. It is for you
alone, you are not allowed to pass it on. If you pass it on (or worse,
sell it), the police will be onto you if they find out.
This is the same in many countries, with variations on the procedure.
Most probably, if you don't fill the ID number, you will not get the >medication.

I don't
think Firefox does that at all.

The Reader does not allow editing PDFs. Filling a form is not editing
the PDF.

Maybe so. The last time I had such a form was my income tax, in March,
and I forget how I did it. If I remember, I'll let you know next March. Okay, Firefox did not do it when Adobe Reader first came out, but now FF works and I really don't need Adobe, but it still annoys me that they're forcing me to delete their own product, instead of behaving like
gentlemen and letting me stop the popup.
The Adobe Acrobat software allows to edit the PDF themselves, which is
something different from filling forms. And it is not free.
It's quite expensive.. That's part of the rsaaon the popup annoys me so much, even though it's probably for the free Reader. I think it should
be beneath a company with an expensive product to do that sort of thing.
Some guy with shareware scraping for every dollar who did it wouldn't
bother me so much.

What Firefox doesn't do is forms with javascript code. The only software I know that does them are Adobe's. There may be some other Windows software that does it in Windows (I don't know which), and none on Linux.

Maybe an older version - pre current release channel versions(DC
Continuous or DC Classic).
- DC Continuous is available in 32 or 64 bit(the latter only in the
MUI installer). DC Classic iirc was only 32 bit
- in Win10/11 the option for default pdf type files supported by Adobe Acrobat Reader DC versions is configured in Windows(not the Reader
software).
Afaik, Windows 10/11 still requires configuring default program
settings(and their file types) in Windows, not the application software.
- either in the app programs settings or via the right click\open with\always use option.

Other methods(hack, tweak, Intune[modify the installer]) may also
work(e.g. registry value changes; GPO; DISM command-line string), and/or
use of an Adobe exe in elevated mode(ADelRCP.exe).
- the latter exe while available, usage is more common in Enterprise
admin controlled devices)
Not to be confused with configuring browser settings for pdf(download,
open settings etc.)

You should have done that to start with. While you're at it why not see what other adobe crap is there and get rid of it with a good uninstaller?

Over the years I've always used the Adobe Acrobat Reader app as a
default and never had a popup problem so apparently refusing the
default's the only way you get the popups?
I mostly use the reader to make the File Explorer preview pane work
but occasionally have used the app directly. There ARE ads in the
app itself but again no popups and not all that annoying (to me) for
the free service I get.

I showed my copy the door. I filled out my survey, too. Somebody has
to do it. If you have automatic updates on a program, and the
automatic update *REMOVES* a function from the tool, what options do
you have to express your feelings on the matter ? No, it does not
make me want to rent your Pro version. You can keep your Pro version,
where the light does not shine (Adobe headquarters). Paul
BTW on an earlier subject of upgrading this 23H2 laptop's 64GB
storage so that I could install 24H2 (Windows complained of not
enough room) I was successful. The C: drive now has 437GB free. But
since the storage upgrade Windows has not offered to do the 24H2
upgrade. Can't win...
