To me, Alpine is a software equivalent to an old movie I kept putting off watching and when I did it was so good I wish I watched it years ago.

The good people on here helped me fix the configuration of my alpine installation and I, now, only startx for a full browser for banking or if i need to buy something.

Soon, though, once I can get browsh to work on my new pi rig, startx will be
a rare thing. As time goes by and the internet changes, finding the community of more legacy messaging systems gladdens my heart. Long live text-mode.

Long story short, thank you everyone.

You're welcome! I feel very much the same, although I do have to live in
the browser to a certain extent due to work. =(

But in terms of usenet, rss, email, and downloading news articles from bbc
and other web sites, that has all moved into alpine for me and works beautifully.

For me alpine strikes the perfect balance between being easy to setup,
while at the same time having enough features and integration
possibilities to be very flexible and useful.

I also get a kick out of comparing cpu and memory usage with alpine
compared with my trusty old thunderbird which I used for about 20 years or
    so.
