• How to cancel a subscription for good?

From Cameo@21:1/5 to All on Fri Jun 28 11:10:33 2024
I had an MLS Season subscription last year with automatic renewal option.
That expired last February. So I assumed it was for good, as I wanted. But suddenly I’ve noticed today, that it was renewed and I was charged for it again. I have been trying to unsubscribe from it, but I could not find a
way to do it. In the Settings I can easily do Renewal, but not
cancellation, even after googling for the way to do it. Has anybody here managed to do it, and how?

Contact the provider of the service.

It is an Apple TV subscription service.

If so, it should be in your iOS subscriptions.

Go into your iPhone Apple ID | Subscriptions.

But now that it renewed may be difficult to cancel.

I set reminders to myself to cancel things weeks before they can
    possibly renew.

Services like this should have an opt-in for renewal.

From what I've read online in Apple Discussion forms, once you
unsubscribe, the option to unsubscribe no longer appears there. Is it
possible you actually unsubscribed without knowing it?

At any rate, if this were me, I'd just go through official channels to
request support for canceling the subscription. Apple's official support
page has a "Billing & Subscriptions" link right at the top where you can
    do this:

    <https://support.apple.com/contact>

Billing & Subscriptions > View, change, or cancel subscriptions > Scroll
down and hit Chat or Call.

Sounds plausible what you suspect. I also thought I cancelled the
subscription months ago till suddenly the new charge appeared in my bank account yesterday. In any case I would have eventually tried the Support method, but I figured I try here first because of the vast experience represented by this group, and the usual speed of info here. Thanks again.

I tried both in apple.com an apple.hu, but the interface looks the same
with no obvious way to talk to a human support person. In its place was
only an interactive question and answer option whose first question was
which charge from a list I had issue about. Of course the charge I was
about to complain wasn’t in the list, so I could not even go to NEXT question. At end I just gave up.

No. only APPLE.COM/BILL, but from the amount of charge I assumed it was for
    MLS Season Pass.

No, I did not use different method and there was no family member involved. But luckily I just discovered today in my bank account that the amount was refunded. So, I assume I also was a victim of the bank’s malfunction described in the article I posted here earlier.

Good news - esp. not having to wait on the phone to try to kill it.

I did what you suggest, but the Subscription screen has only a Renew
button. Had I known this, I would not have subscribed to it in the first
    place.

If there's only a "renew" option then there is no current subscription via Apple. You must have bought it via a different method.

No, I did not use different method and there was no family member involved.
But luckily I just discovered today in my bank account that the amount was refunded. So, I assume I also was a victim of the bank’s malfunction described in the article I posted here earlier. I wonder if it was due to
some sophisticated hacker attack against the bank.

From what I've read online in Apple Discussion forms, once you
unsubscribe, the option to unsubscribe no longer appears there. Is it
possible you actually unsubscribed without knowing it?

At any rate, if this were me, I'd just go through official channels to >>>> request support for canceling the subscription. Apple's official support >>>> page has a "Billing & Subscriptions" link right at the top where you can >>>> do this:

    <https://support.apple.com/contact>

Billing & Subscriptions > View, change, or cancel subscriptions > Scroll >>>> down and hit Chat or Call.

I tried everything to no avail. Interestingly the charge does not show up >>> among other, legit charges in my Apple account. It only shows up in my bank >>> account. But then I found this news item. I think this is what happened to >>> me, too.

    https://www.macrumors.com/2024/06/26/apple-pay-hungary-issue/

What did Apple support say about the issue when you contacted them? Did
you mention this issue in Hungary?

I tried both in apple.com an apple.hu, but the interface looks the same
with no obvious way to talk to a human support person.

I think maybe you misread what I said above.

    1. Go to <https://support.apple.com/contact>
    2. Click "Billing & Subscriptions".
    3. Click "View, change, or cancel subscriptions".
    4. Scroll down and hit "Chat" or "Call". Then follow the prompts.

Has anybody seen an Apple announcement about this false charge fiasco in Hungary? Because I haven’t. It was only reported by the Hungarian Central Bank and media. Strange.

The incident was due to a technical glitch at the international bank
card partner of Apple's online store rather than a glitch in Apple's
    systems:

I understand, but Apple’s bank partner is still considered as agent of
Apple, and thus would call for announcing the problem first by them, not by
the Hungarian National Bank. Instead, Apple sits there quietly like shit in
    the grass.

Consumers were notified, but you have a problem with who notified them.
Talk about first world "problems". And for all we know, Apple and the
Hungarian National Bank coordinated their efforts to avoid confusion.
Try removing that stick from your ass sometime. You'll be happier
    without it. 😉
