• Hello out there...

It's been pretty quiet so I thought I would send out a message to try to stir up some activity.

I just saw a video of someone who went to the top of The Gateway Arch in St. Louis. I'm not a fan of heights although being inside it probably would not bother me too much, but that little elevator car thing you have to ride up in would be a no go for me. Has anyone ever done it? How was it?

What have you been up to?

I have not drank that much booze in a while, but that is the kind of stuff
myself and buddies did back in the day!

I remember one time we climbed up the Detroit Zoo water tower, of course one
of us froze up there and we spent a hour or more talking him down. Lucky
to not have the police involved.

I did it years ago...if you don't do well with heights, you might not
want to consider it...and that includes getting on a one step ladder. :P

What have you been up to?

Six feet and no good. <BG>

I would have had the good sense to freeze up on the ground before I got up there. :) Nice view of the Zoo I would imagine. You should have stopped on the way home to buy a lottery ticket after managing to not get caught. I suppose that used up all the luck though.

I've never heard that one before, but I gotta say I would imagine that's
pretty darn tight. It seems like the prices are going up on everything,
    don't get me started.

I hope you've been able to get out a bit and enjoy a few hobbies.

Just under $1200 a month on disability does not go very far. Then, you
have these greedy bastards in Washington, who are all millionaires, and
they lament they can't survive on $250,000 a year. They don't have a clue. Before the election, they give us the thumbs up...after they win, they
    flip us off.

That expression about being "tight" was from my late mother-in-law, who
died a year after my Mom passed away.

I hope you've been able to get out a bit and enjoy a few hobbies.

Aside from the BBS, I do ham radio (conducted a license exam session in
the area this past Saturday), and I do traffic nets 4 nights a week. And,
I'm the Editor, Webmaster, and Circulation Chairman for the Arkansas State Square Dance Federation. Most of my work is "behind the scenes", and I
rarely dance anymore. Health and finances have really put a damper on
    travel outside of central Arkansas.

I haven't been to the top of the Arch, but I've been to the tippy-top of the Eiffel Tower and it's pretty nuts. After you take the regular elevator which goes up the leg from the ground to the first platform, you get in a different elevator that goes straight up to the top. It's very high, and an amazing view.

I've also been to the top of the "Tokyo Skytree" which is a giant oberservation tower in Tokyo. The Sky tree is the worlds tallest "self supported tower." Basically the tallest tower thats not a building. It's pretty wild. It's big, stable, and air conditioned thou. Complete with gift shop. The elevators hold 40 people each and it takes 50 seconds to get from the ground to the top.

I'm okay with these towers. But I don't like the glass bridges that are popular now, where you stand on a clear surface at great height.

Check out the "Sky Pool" in London, a clear pool which spans the gap between two buildings. https://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-57323305

With the square dancing (another hobby), one wanted me to run for
President of the organization. I told them "I don't want to be president".

Then, I added "If I was president, and the time came to get new officers; because the current ones were limited by term limits, were burned out, or
their health wouldn't let them continue to serve...and no one would put
their name in nomination...I'd bang down the gavel, declare the organization disbanded, and the meeting adjourned". When everyone then starting raising cane, I'd say "Your silence spoke your intentions...it's too little, too late, now".
