    Hey gang,

What's up everyone doing? Good I hope. Lets get some conversation going. I'd like to get some moderators on some of these echoes in this network. I have a couple so far. Any takers?

On another note, today is a blessing. A new day, better than yesterday, tomorrow looks positive!

Other than last night, which I slept very well, I had 4 hours of slee in 3 days... :(

Is that from working a lot or just not able to sleep? Noting slept very well, it sounds like you needed it.

There's a lot happening right now. My wife's mother has been battling cancer since around the first of the year. She has taken a severe turn for the
worse, and is now in the hospice program at my sister-in-law's house in St. Louis. Yesterday, my wife flew to St. Louis to spend the weekend with her parents, before something happens.

Overall, they have both had good lives, as my fater-in-law is 88 and my mother-in-law is 87.

We're not sure what is going to happen with any funeral arrangements with all of this virus stuff happening... Not even sure they are going to be allowed
    to have a funeral...

So, just a lot on my mind, and not being able to sleep. I've been trying to submerse myself in updating the BBS, and creating MPLs, and whatnot... It
helps during the day, but at night, lying in bed, your mind wanders to everything that's happening...

The game is pretty much the same as it was 20 years ago. An often response I get from people lately. I'd suggest you give it a try. telnet://net298.net Instant access and ready to play on first login.

I'll have to do that when things calm down over here...

Would love to have some more players. There's currently three or four
regulars on it right now and I just put it on-line within a couple weeks
ago. I'd like to say my BBS is returning to how it was when I first
started; with lots of regulars and players playing games.

On another note, there is also League-316 which I have registered BRE,
FE and TAL and eight participating boards in the league. That, and don't forget LORD. I plan on bringing InterLord back to League-316 which I will probably get to tomorrow if I don't find myself busy doing other things,
which isn't uncommon for me. :)

for the worse, and is now in the hospice program at my sister-in-law's house in St. Louis. Yesterday, my wife flew to St. Louis to spend the weekend with her parents, before something happens.

That is very troubling news. Today will mark the day that my mother-in-law passed away. It's hard on my wife and I've been here to comfort her and
she really appreciates it. I still miss my late-dad and my late-brother
along with all my other family and friends I had along the way. It's tough losing a loved one. Even though when you're miles apart and don't know
about what's going on with someone like that, there's that sense that
something is wrong. My condolenses on the family.

Overall, they have both had good lives, as my fater-in-law is 88 and my mother-in-law is 87.

That is a great length of years for a couple like that. I'm sure they've
been really blessed to have a great son-in-law.

We're not sure what is going to happen with any funeral arrangements
with all of this virus stuff happening... Not even sure they are going
to be allowed to have a funeral...

Yeah, this virus stuff has made everything 1000 times worse. I think things are going to get better after all this election stuff is over and people can start living life better than they did before.

So, just a lot on my mind, and not being able to sleep. I've been
trying to submerse myself in updating the BBS, and creating MPLs, and whatnot... It helps during the day, but at night, lying in bed, your
mind wanders to everything that's happening...

That's understandable. Things like this can be very upsetting and make the mind 'race' on different things and cause anxiety and depression. I'm glad that you've been able to make use of the daytime. I find myself up during
the night as well, but for no particular reason. Some nights I sleep fine, some nights I don't sleep at all. Some say I have strange sleeping habits
or the days/nights I have are messed up, but really, it's not all that bad.
The time I spend at night if I'm not sleepy, I try to do something
productive or find something entertaining to do until it's time to get some sleep.

    I wish you well.

    Sincerely,
    Jon Justvig

    play-by-post?

Maybe Gumshoe would do the trick. Of the Gates of Ishtar.

I could set up a local echo for people to play on the board. I'd play
and we could probably get some more to play too. At least, we'd really only need four people.

By system, I mean an RPG system. You know, Runequest, Dungeons and Dragons, etc.

Ahhh.. Well, perhaps I could create a sub-board called "Play-to-Post" and
we can have a D&D going on there. If you're interested let me know. There
is also Legion RPG on my board that's similar to D&D, roll-dice to win, that sort of thing. You're welcome to play.

Hahaha, I am afraid I am wasting too much time on Doors already.

As long as you're having fun and enjoying the time you spend on what you do,
I don't see any harm in it. Glad and thankful for the time you've spent so far!

If I ever figured how to run a play-by-post game I would give it a try, but I am not sure how it would work.

I was thinking of starting a message base to do play-by-post, but that might take too much time and sway people away from it for waiting too long for
each player and the DM to get results.

IRC with a dice bot sounds more reasonable. For the record, I wrote one

You're welome to the Late Night Network, SSL, irc.phatstar.org:6679 to start

    Yeah, gotta have priorities.

Plus, some days, I don't feel like logging on. And, if there are thunderstorms in the area, that means no computer work at all. While
I have the means to get the BBS into the cloud, I've had other tasks

    them!! <G>

    sounds good...

There was a comic strip from Bloom County years ago, that I had been
looking for, for several years...and finally found it. Opus The Penguin
goes into a Burger King, and wants a Herring Whopper With Cheese (but,
hold the head (I guess he wants onions) <G>). The caricature of the
cashier looked almost like yours truly, who worked for Burger King for
5 years in central Arkansas 40 years ago. :P

That file is in one of my file areas, but I forget the name offhand.

The best thing in the morning is a Word to God and a cup of coffe!

I'll pass on the coffee. I had been drinking diet green tea, but my
doctor said "that was too much caffeine"...so, it's back to flavored
water. However, if I eat out, I order sweet tea instead of soda.

I always voice a prayer before I go out on errands, and before the
meal. But, I think of where the Sunday School teacher asked her kids
class if they pray before eating...and one little girl piped up "We
don't have to...my Mom is such a good cook!!" <G>.

    Jon,

    Yeah, gotta have priorities.

Plus, some days, I don't feel like logging on. And, if there are thunderstorms in the area, that means no computer work at all. While
I have the means to get the BBS into the cloud, I've had other tasks
to take care of first before doing that. But, once I can get the BBS
into the cloud, it won't go offline for thunderstorms, power, or
    internet outages.

I'm on-line most days. Usually on Mystic Relay Chat (MRC). I've heard a
lot of stories of storms ov there in Arkansas. How have the storms been
in the last few days? Now being autumn, it will most likely be maybe a
little rain and just getting colder.

That'll be great to get your BBS on-line 24/7. There's been a lot of down
time due to storms for you; this I've heard from you.

Considering I hadn't downloaded a packet in a week...and there are several autoposts (recycling on a 90 day basis), that post every 3-4
    days.

    Ha! Who am I kidding?

Well, at least I have a brother Darrell, and another brother Darryl. <G>

Seriously, my brother's name is Dana...he was named after actor Dana
Andrews, and I was named after directory Daryl Zanick. In an episode of
"The Flintstones", he was known as "Daryl Zanrock". <G>

My late wife and I met on a BBS run by the local college...so, when she became a user, then Co-Sysop, then spouse, on my dial-up BBS, we were truly "Married With Modem". <G>

    What's new everybody?

Yesterday was chaotic. First, we had thunderstorms in the area
much of the day (some severe). But, of more concern, I had been
experiencing possible symptoms of a DVT (deep vein thrombosis,
blood clots in the leg), with numbness and pain in the legs. So,
I had called my PCP, and the nurse said "you need to go to either
Urgent Care or the Emergency Room".

Well, I felt well enough to drive (so I avoided ambulatory and
taxi fees)...and the ER was packed. I got there at 5pm, but it was
3am this morning before I was released.

In telling of my symptoms, they felt I was at a moderate risk for
a DVT, so they decided to do an ultrasound of both legs, and the
scrotum (testicular pain can also be a precursor of kidney stones)...
    plus, a CT scan.

So, they drew blood, and wanted a urine sample. They give women a
cup to pee in, but for the men, it's basically "a test tube" (are you
kidding me??!!). They then added an IV for more blood, and then for
    the CT scan.

They took me back for the ultrasounds of both legs, and the scrotum.
The gel was WARM, but it was a bit messy. :P At least the female nurse specialist was good looking <eg>. Then, the CT Scan, with the IV...I
got "a nice warm feeling", but thought I was going to pee and poop on
    the table.

The diagnosis was severe epididymytis, which is common for males
who have had vasectomies done. They gave me a prescription for
doxycycline, but I wasn't about to go to the 24 hour Walgreens
Pharmacy at 3am to get it. I picked it up before lunch today.

At least it wasn't a blood clot, as those can be deadly.

To me, plain water is just too bland.

Water is good for you. It cleans out the toxins. It might not taste that great compared to something sweet. I've been cutting down a lot on sugar and caffeine lately.

Since lockdown in March or so I've managed to eliminate all soda from my diet... okay with very minor exception when we splurge and get In 'n Out Burger. But I digress.

I am however drinking Seltzer Water, such as La Croix, which has a small bit of flavoring. I've found that the bubbles in the water make it more "interesting" and I will drink it as a replacement for Soda or other sugar drinks.

We got a soda stream a few years back. At first we were buying the sugary syrups and making our own pop (soda) at home, then I read the ingredients and nutrition labels and saw how much sugar I was drinking.

I wasn't really crazy on their sugar free stuff, and their Italian soda flavours were not that great. Now all I do is juice a few lemons and pour the juice into an ice cube tray (also do limes every now & then to switch it up) and just have plain sparkling water with a couple of lemon (or lime) ice cubes in it.

Like you said, the flavours make it more interesting and I am indeed drinking more water. I've experimented with some other flavours like pineapple juice ice cubes and it just wasn't that great. Watered down cranberry juice isn't that bad though. I've been meaning to try the Pom brand pomegranate juice.

So are you using the Soda stream to make the sparkling water? How long does the water stay fizzy last once you "gas" it?

I've thought about a Soda Stream, but never got one. I've heard during COVID that there is a shortage of the gas cannisters, and going back and forth to the store or whatever to deal with them seems like a pain.

I usually drink a can or two of seltzer water a day. I'll switch around brands to get some variety in flavors. I like the ones that are essenced i.e. very little flavor. I'll also drink regular plain sparkling water.

I like your idea of making ice cubes from the juice to add to the water. I might try that.

Yup, using the soda stream to make the sparkling water.

The bottles are quite thick and have a lid, so they stay pretty fizzy. We
tend to use one or two bottles during a meal so we never really have the issue of them going flat. We just fizz when we want to drink it.

The colder the water, the better it fizzes, so we keep the bottles filled with still water in the fridge and then just carbonate when we want.

I've thought about a Soda Stream, but never got one. I've heard during COVIDthat there is a shortage of the gas cannisters, and going back and forth to thestore or whatever to deal with them seems like a pain.

We have 3 canisters in total, one in the machine now, one empty and one full.

We've exchanged one during covid so far ($22 w/ tax), was just a normal transaction and no issues finding one. We usually just exchange at Wal-Mart.

I usually drink a can or two of seltzer water a day. I'll switch around brandsto get some variety in flavors. I like the ones that are essenced i.e. verylittle flavor. I'll also drink regular plain sparkling water.

We have two sizes of bottles, the larger ones we use at dinner for the two of us or I'll buzz up the smaller one if it's just me.

Pro Tip: If you do buy one, open the box and look for the expiry date on the bottles. The bottles themselves expire (assuming because they're constantly being pressurized) - We bought a machine once and the bottles had 3 months to go until expiry. The bottles should last 5 years from date of manufacture, so that means that machine was on the shelf for almost that long.

How you feeling and are you keeping your nose clean as of late?

    Hope all is good...

    Actually, no. :(

I had to be ambulatory to a local hospital on July 29. I had moderate discomfort between my throat and my heart...like I was going to vomit.
Yet, I wasn't nauseated, wasn't short of breath, etc. Yet, when I got to
the Emergency Room, my heart was racing at a blistering 155 beats per minute...known as "atrial flutter".

I had never heard the term before...but knew of atrial fibrillation
(AFIB) and ventricular fibrillation (VFIB). My Mom died of congestive
heart failure and AFIB just over 2 years ago...and VFIB killed my wife
14 1/2 years ago (she had a defective aortic heart valve since birth)...
she was only 48 when she died.

    I didn't marry until I was 43, but I never dreamed I'd be a widower
at 47. I never remarried, and we never had kids, so I'm the last of
my line. At this stage of life, folks have too much baggage, such as:

    1) They can't manage money (credit cards)
    2) They let their kids treat them like crap (cussing them out, etc.).
    3) They or their kids are in trouble with the law, are convicted felons,
    etc.

I basically don't want, or need that extra drama in my life.

In the hospital, they tried 2 medications through the intraveneous
feed, but that only lowered the rate temporarily. So, they put me on
"a cardiac drip", and admitted me for 4 days. They now have me on a
blood thinner (to prevent formation of a blood clot that could cause
a fatal heart attack or stroke), and a medication to stabilize the
heart rate and blood pressure. They also did a chest X-Ray, and an echocardiogram in the hospital. It got the heart rate down to 74...
and like in golf, 74 for 18 holes is much better than 155!! :P I was
    released on August 1.

The other day, I had a chemical stress test, and an echocardiogram at Arkansas Heart Hospital Clinic. This is much quicker than the treadmill
stress test, but produces the same result. Right after they inject that chemical, it's like a snake had bit you!!

You get chest pain, short of breath, feel like you have a fever, your
pulse starts racing, and you might get nauseated...all as if you were
having a heart attack. At least I did not get nauseated, and the readings stabilized real quick. They did have "a crash cart" nearby, in case I had suffered a heart attack, but thank The Lord it wasn't needed. When I was
in the Emergency Room, the blood work did not show any sign of a heart
attack. So, apparently, I caught this mess in time.

The results got in on the patient portal that night, but I couldn't
find a way to view them. So, I have to wait for the cardiologist (he
isn't the one with the get will cards <G>) to contact me next week,
and let me know what the results were. I'm supposed to have a follow-up
visit with him on August 25. Right now, I don't know if I'll need surgery
for a pacemaker, or if there was any blockage that needs to be removed
    with bypass surgery.

    I never thought I'd be a heart patient...even though I'm classed as
obese class II, but I know folks whose body mass index is much higher
than mine is. In fact, I've lost weight since I was in the hospital.

It's so sad that so many marriages end so quick with divorce...which is a

It's so sad that so many marriages end so quick with divorce...which is a vow tied with a slipknot. I've heard of folks get married on a Friday, and they are filing for divorce on a Monday. Or, they get married on New Years Eve, then get divorced on Jan. 2, just to show they were married the previous year on their tax forms.

With me it's not that I'm excluded it's my Mom that is 90 and the call her Sue
not Grandmother, that's when you know their is more to play then just me. I
can handle me but what did my Mother have to do with it.

As for you and me I hope we both stick in there for a long, long time!
