    . . .

Just one of hundreds of MSM articles.

Didja know your brain is now like 50% plastic ???

Plastic is EVIL. Plastic must be ELIMINATED !

Even though it's the most versatile stuff in
    the known universe.

BACK TO DUNG HUTS and pustules, disease and
early horrible death ! THAT'S what we want !!!

Oh the horrible awful deadly MICRO-PLASTIC !!!

Doom for the 1st world ? Exactly what some WANT ...

Of course lifespans are about as long and
good as ever (minus the Covid issue).

"Climate change" kind of lost its thing - so
a NEW doom had to be invented.

Hey, plastic has been in and around EVERYTHING
since the early 1950s. I'm old enough to
remember when there were so many aux chems in
the stuff that it TASTED LIKE PLASTIC. Ate
my kiddie cereal out of such bowls (actually
think I still have one of those) while watching
    "Bullwinkle" and puppet-animation shows.

Weird ... 'plastic taste' seemed to be mostly
in the teeth, an odd 'buzz' ... dunno why.
Made you want to chew more plastic.

    Alien plot ? :-)

Ain't dead yet. No significant afflictions even
    in my seventh decade.

    So, am I 90% plastic by now ? If so, it's a
    GOOD THING ! :-)

I am reminded of the Jefferson Airplane song, Plastic Fantastic Lover.
or the scene in the movie, The Graduate, where Dustin Hoffman is told
    the future is (in) "plastics."

Kinda true ! Computer tech hadn't really began
to peak back then. Even now, plastics are of
    just vast importance.

Try Zappa's "Plastic People" too :-)

Anyway, we didn't even begin to hear about the
'plastic menace' until GW started to lose momentum.
Petro energy AND plastics are both foundation
    points for Western industrial society.

In Africa they've finally figured out what to do
with all the plastic water jugs ... they melt 'em
in a pot and turn them into paving 'stones' and
building blocks. The exact mix/purity isn't very
    important. Basically 'free building material'.

Hmmm ... a PET/PE/PVC house ought to last a LONG
time - and no rot. Maybe the West should look
    into this too ...

Saw some show the other day about people trying
to design "1000-year houses". Wood ? HELL NO !
The consensus was concrete - perhaps "3-D
    printed" - and mostly "off-site" to-order modular
    construction.

They DID leave out how the rebar
is both the strength, AND the DOOM, of concrete
in modern design. If you want 1000 years, even
100 years, gotta go with stainless rebar (which
isn't especially cheap). If the first two or
three floors of that Miami condo used stainless
rebar it'd still be standing strong. NOW you
can't even sell those 70s/80s beachfront condos.

BEST concrete ... still the kind invented over
2000 years ago by the Romans. Volcanic ash added.
Coal ash, mountains of it in the US/EU, is
almost as good. Mt.St.Helens made about a gigaton
of ash. Cast it a little thicker and you can largely
    skip the rebar.

SOME say the Egyptians had a kind of concrete,
but based on 'zeolite' chemistry instead.

Anyway ... I think PlastiDoom is just as political
    as GW.

Oh, odd thing I saw on TV today ... the famous
Lighthouse Of Alexandria ... they used LEAD as
the mortar between the bricks. A little more
flexible than mineral mortar. The thing stood
for 1500+ years in a quake zone. Flaw, they
didn't use it for the UPPER section ... and
the harmonics of a particular quake caused a
    fatal resonance. It collapsed top-down.

The U.S. Economy Performs Better Under Democratic Presidents

The U.S. economy has performed much better under Democratic presidents than Republican presidents in the modern era. In almost every measure of the
U.S. economy including total job growth, unemployment, economic growth, manufacturing job growth, manufacturing investment, small business
creation, and contribution to the national debt, economic performance is stronger under Democrats. While there are many factors contributing to
these trends, the throughline is clear that Democratic administrations consistently help the U.S. economy perform better than Republican administrations.

Republicans have prioritized tax cuts that benefit the wealthy and that
fail to boost economic growth or pay for themselves, while Democrats have prioritized investing in the middle class, supporting small businesses, and improving economic resilience after downturns. Of the 11 recessions in the modern era, 10 have begun under Republican presidents.

Overall job growth has been greater under Democratic presidents

Job growth has been notably greater under Democratic presidents than
Republican presidents since the early 1980s. Looking at the last seven presidents, job growth totaled over 50 million under Democratic presidents compared to only 17 million under Republican presidents. Most recently, job growth has totaled nearly 16.2 million under the Biden-Harris
administration as the U.S. economy has recovered from the pandemic
recession. Conversely, there were 2.7 million fewer Americans employed when President Trump left office than at the beginning of his term, making him
the first president in the modern era to oversee net job losses.

I remember when I was a kid back in the '50s and early '60s having
plastic toys melt when left in the sunlight or near a source of heat.

When the Rolling Stones released the "Sticky Fingers" LP with a real
metal zipper on the cardboard sleeve / cover, the LP vinyl records
tended to warp and become unplayable on a turntable if the records were
shipped during the hot summer months by tractor-trailer. Where the
zipper was would melt the vinyl underneath it.

I remember when I was a kid back in the '50s and early '60s having

Yea, they used a sort of waxy polyethylene chosen because
    it had a low MP - manufacturing/molding were easier/cheaper.

Toys, it was assumed the kiddies would break/discard them
    before they melted.

Hmmmm ... a common feature in museums in the early 60s
was a machine that'd mold a little plastic trophy while
you waited. A pair of hydraulic mold arms would come in
with great fanfare, the plastic was injected, a minute or
two later your little dinosaur or dolphin or Gemini capsule
would drop out. Instruction was to carefully hold it
upside-down for a few minutes until it fully cooled. Same
kind of waxy PE. MAY still have one or two such things
    stashed away somewhere.

When the Rolling Stones released the "Sticky Fingers" LP with a real

zipper was would melt the vinyl underneath it.

Frankly that might now be a "collectable" unto
    itself :-)

Another curio was a Monty Python album, "Matching Tie
and Handkerchief". SOME were actually '3-sided' - the
'B' side had a two spaced grooves. If you normally had
an automatic phono plop the needle down you'd always
hear just ONE groove - but if somebody bumped the
turntable you'd suddenly get an entire different
audio track. Trick for vinyl media only :-)
