Yusheng Wang, 35, an employee of Canada’s largest electricity producer Hydro-Quebec, was arrested at his home south of Montreal by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on Monday.
A special national-security investigations unit of the RCMP charged Wang
with stealing trade secrets for China.
Wang was also charged with unauthorized use of computer systems, fraud,
and breach of public trust. He will be the first person prosecuted for
the long-dormant “economic espionage” charge established under the Security of Information Act in 2001.

“Foreign actor interference is a priority for many law enforcement and intelligence agencies around the world. Hydro-Quebec is considered a

According to Hydro-Quebec’s statement on the matter, Wang was a

Just exactly what was he charged for? Trade secrets? I thought electric companies made electricity, a process that has not changed much in a
hundred years. There is something fishy about this story. Maybe it had
to do with battery research? Can we look forward for some new advance in battery technology coming from this Canadian electric company?

The usual, he is charged with industrial espionage. He had a job in
battery development and he transmitted classified information to
China. He was dumb enough to file patents in his own name for research
owned by Hydro-Québec. Corporate security caught him in the act and
they went to the police.

I guess that the patents he filed were stolen ideas from the power
company and not the other way around. Many good ideas have been stolen
at the patent office leaving the inventor penniless. It will be
interesting to see if this story goes before an open court so that the
facts may be sorted out.

So far there is every indication that this will go before a «regular» criminal court. Also the culprit is detained presently to curb his
propensity to elope. I wonder when Chineese hostage taking is going to
be announced...

I've noticed that since this Chi-comm's arrest, "Mighty Wannabe" has
been suddenly posting under stolen nyms from other posters in
alt.survival. Maybe from his jail cell he can't log on using VPN and an anonymizer so he's pretending to be Klaus Schadenfreude and a couple of others. If there were such a thing as cosmic justice, the court would
send him to the same gulag as Brittney Griner where he could be her new
wife.
