• U220401 NVidia versus Nouveau, no DKMS used?

From Paul@21:1/5 to All on Sat Aug 13 11:24:06 2022
I noticed after an update yesterday (would include a kernel),
that nvidia-drm is no longer loading and nouveau is running
    my GTX1080.

And no matter what I do in Additional Drivers, like switch from
NVidia to Nouveau and back to NVidia again, the situation does
not change. I end up running Nouveau.

U2204 no longer seems to be using DKMS for NVidia. It may still
be using DKMS for the VirtualBox drivers.

And in terms of blacklists, nouveau is no longer getting blacklisted
when NVidia is selected as an Additional Driver (whether 515 or 470).
I tried blacklisting Nouveau (/etc/modprobe.d added file) and I was ignored.

So now I don't know where to look next. Something must be telling
the OS to not bother with NVidia-drm (Direct Render Module) and
    do something else instead.

    Paul

Is using nouveau a problem for you?
    nouveau creates less compatibility problems.

If you like nvidia-xxx, install it via apt manually and look what the
massages are. Check dmesg and the syslog after a reboot.
