In general, the best way to test whether a group is still active
and able to engage in discussions is to attempt to engage it in a
topical discussion.

For example, one might enquire whether there's any way to stop
Ubuntu's ridiculous habit of snatching focus with a window that
says, in effect, "just press ENTER to make an irrevocable
life-changing decision and if you happen to be typing while not
looking at your screen, tough shit."

password and enter it from scratch.

I don't use this newsgroup, but I still have a 22.04 partition that I
boot up sometimes. Ubuntu was an up-and-coming thing at one time. Too
bad it's not more popular.

Canonical had made some questionable decisions in the past that drove
some away. It's still a highly popular / default goto distro for many.

This is on Ubuntu 22.04. I have no idea if it's Gnome or Firefox or
whatever, but I don't remember the same thing with Ubuntu 18.04.

We if it is within a web browser, then it is the configuration of the website, not OS. Even so if I am using a terminal window or Libre
Office document with a web browser window open, a popup there never
took my focus from my active window. I use standard Ubuntu GNOME
desktop and even notifications never stole my focus. My only issue

typing never seems to work and an accidental touch does steal my

It is Thunderbird's Calendar reminders. I also get the ones that I

but the box displays no information as to its heritage. I remember
trying to get rid of it as soon as I had installed 22.04, and
encountered this obtrusive thing for the first time, but all advice did
not stop it, so I just live with it. At some point, it's better to just
get on with life rather than waste more time.
For interest, I have never been bothered by accidental touchpad
operation. Maybe, as I never use it except on very rare occasions, its sensitivity is set lower than yours.

I've often had touchpads that do that, as well as "clicking" on something
I just want to move the pointer over.

Because of those things, I normally disable the touchpad and use something else. This particular laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad) had a pointing stick
(between the G H and B keys) without that problem. It can be easier to use
an external mouse (wireless with small receiver if tangling cords are a problem).
