If you are running a 32bit Xub, it must be 19.x. My 64bit Cinnamon has
    3.2 in its repo/s.

The current telegram-desktop is 3.5 available for 64bit linux as flatpak
or snap. The 'latest' t-d I can find for 32 bit linux is 2.4.4
available as a 'static build' at github which must require compiling.

I think you are stuck back at 2.4.4 if you are going to stay 32 bit.

Ubuntu wiki points to this PPA. It provides i386-version which doesn't
    work with my old ideapad

    <https://launchpad.net/~atareao/+archive/ubuntu/telegram/+files/ telegram_3.5.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb>

Does that mean, they provide 64bit binaries renamed as x86?
Once PPA registered, synaptic provides theese useless(?) binaries to my
    system.

PPA works good with 64bit xubuntu.

I didn't find that launchpad site when I was looking.

When I look at the page you indicate above, I see that it has .deb/s for several different v.

Your 32bit Xub is based on Bionic, not Focal. If you add the repo in
the manner advised, it is supposed to put the proper repo in your sources.

An alternative way to get the .deb is to navigate to the files for each version, in your case bionic and dl the .deb directly.

I'm wondering if you got focal .386 instead of bionic .deb.

I wonder if something went wrong about the version. I think all of the versions for the different Ub releases are named the same.

PPA works good with 64bit xubuntu.

Your CPU isn't able to run a x86_64 OS. Ubuntu (and therefore all
derivates including Xubuntu) completely ceased support for i386 with
    19.10.
Install Debian on your System, they have telegram-desktop for i386 in up-to-date versions. https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=telegram&searchon=names&suite=stable&section=all

CanOpener says they're all 64 bit executables. I guess "copying from Focal" according to the entry, is not a good idea ?

The executable files are the same size and so on, which to happen by random chance is impossible. The DEBs are NOT identical - each has a different hash. But the contents are identical, like a 64 bit build was done and then
packaged as both. It takes humans to do stuff like that, not machines.

I'd just build it from source, except I don't think I'm seeing source there...

May be, this is a good idea. Sometime ago I tried MX. I need 32bit stuff
for my thinkpad t41 (print server for my parallel ported printer) and my collected ideapads S10.
With newer thinkpads (t220, t420, t520) I enjoy manjaro, but I am not
ready to abandon those older netbooks...
