Pentagon generals found a way to get President Donald Trump
giddy about the new multi-billion next generation fighter jet:
bestowing a name signifying Trump's historic return to the
White House.
'It'll be known as the F-47. The generals picked a title,
and it's a beautiful number – 47,' Trump told reporters
in the Oval Office alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth
while announcing a new contract.
He called it 'something the likes of which nobody has
seen before.'
'We can't tell you the price, because it would give way to
some of the technology and some of the size of the plane,'
Trump said.
. . .
If oblivious, Trump is the 47th POTUS :-)
The plane is apparently cheaper, but also more
versatile, than competing designs. That means
we can buy a lot MORE of them and get 'em in
the mix sooner and a lot of existing weapons
and systems are kinda plug-in.
HOWEVER ... Boeing ???
That corp really ran down its rep of late ...
crap planes, crap spaceships, DEI out the
wazoo ......... "Oh, you're brown-ish, so
now you're a rocket scientist !" ......
Lockheed was apparently offering an alt - but
a very expensive one.
Frankly, I'm not sure new fighter jets are the
way to go, they're kinda like the old battleships
nobody makes anymore - big and expensive. The
future - which China seem to understand well -
is in semi/fully-autonomous killer DRONES. You
can make a dozen or more of those for the price
of a single human-piloted fighter.
Variously attributed to Lenin or Stalin -
"Quantity has a quality all of its own".
Gonna say I think aircraft carriers are now in
the same category as those battleships - huge,
expensive, targets. A dozen missile/drone
carriers would be cheaper, quicker, harder for
an enemy to deal with. Some could be fully
autonomous, few or no human crew.
