Israel has canceled all tariffs on imported goods from the United States a
day before President Donald Trump’s announcement of his sweeping tariff
plan.
The Trump administration has suggesting the president could announce
reciprocal tariffs — matching other countries’ tariffs dollar for dollar — though details are not yet known.
Israel announced the move in support of its “closest ally” and “most significant trading partner” in a joint statement from Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Minister of
Economy and Industry MK Nir Barkat today.
“Abolishing tariffs on American goods is another step in the policy led by governments under my leadership over the last decade to open the market to competition, introduce diversity into the economy, and reduce the cost of living,” Netanyahu said in the statement.
Limited impact: Around 99% of products imported from the US to Israel are already exempt from tariffs under the US-Israel Free Trade Agreement, so
the tariff reduction will only apply to a limited number of food and agricultural products, the statement said.
