    Maher was way ahead of the curve on this one as he is a smart
    guy, despite his politics. He always has been.
    Going politically far left or right is never a good idea.
    And becoming what is effectively an arm of one party or the other
    is even worse.

    Tell jokes, sing, dance, act, etc.
    Use your craft to entertain people.

    Imagine the lack of self-awareness at losing $40-$50 million/year, then complaining you were fired for political reasons.

    Yep, that's the name of the game, entertainment. If one does it the
    Colbert way, it's extremely limited in appeal.
