One of North America's largest supermarket chains has bluntly
told its suppliers they will not accept increased prices
    related to Trump-imposed tariffs.

Albertsons, which operates more than 2,200 supermarkets and is
the second-biggest grocery chain in the continent, drew a hard
line with it suppliers last month.

The Idaho-based company - which also runs stores including
Balducci's, Kings and Safeway - sternly declared they will
not tolerate any unauthorized price spikes.

'To maintain transparency and ensure consistency across our
supply chain, we are writing to clarify our Company's policy
regarding how these tariffs should be handled in our
ongoing partnership, Albertsons wrote in a letter obtained

    value proposition our customers expect.'

    Great, President Trump, just great.

So now you got American business fighting with itself. So what
happens when the suppliers stand firm and tell the retailers to pass
    it on?

Most of our shrimp is imported. It may as much as double in price or disappear from the market entirely. Demand will push up the price of domestic shrimp too.

One of North America's largest supermarket chains has bluntly
told its suppliers they will not accept increased prices
    related to Trump-imposed tariffs.

Albertsons, which operates more than 2,200 supermarkets and is

The Idaho-based company - which also runs stores including
Balducci's, Kings and Safeway - sternly declared they will
not tolerate any unauthorized price spikes.

The suppliers will take a loss on current stocks and then order no
more. What will Safeway sell then? And at what price?

'To maintain transparency and ensure consistency across our
supply chain, we are writing to clarify our Company's policy
regarding how these tariffs should be handled in our
ongoing partnership, Albertsons wrote in a letter obtained
    by BIG.

Some stores are planning to show the tariff portion of an item's
price. That way, when the price goes up, you can blame Trump.

'Our customers rely on us for our competitive pricing and
quality products, and we are committed to maintaining the
    value proposition our customers expect.'

    . . .

. . . for as long as we can find anything to sell you.

The USA grows a lot of things ... but not everything
customers like. A lot of central/south-American fruits
and spices and such - and coffee - are on US market
shelves. Some imports from the EU and India too.

Now this doesn't mean Americans are gonna starve.
The US-grown will be as cheap as ever - but maybe
you can't get yer Grey Poupon.

So, for now ... buy American.

Inflation. Supply chain shocks. Italian pasta manufacturers by their
wheat from the Dakotas. SD in particular has become known for the
high quality semolina made from it.

There aren't enough pasta making facilities in the US to convert all
that excess wheat glutting the market.

Trump thought, thinks ?, the USA can just bark and
everyone will kneel down ? Nope, not anymore. Maybe
in 1950, but not now. The rest of the world is going
to just work AROUND us for now, pretend the USA does
    not exist for awhile.

The isolationism is the worst thing. Like the bitter old woman in the
big, dark house on the corner. The old woman nobody ever sees.

    Trade pressure should have
been phased in, the nuclear approach winds up
    working against us.

    Uh ... ya THINK??

Anyway, expect empty stretches on yer store shelves
    for awhile.

    Thanks, Uncle Don!

First off, you shouldn't be eating pasta ... pure
nasty (disguised) carbs. Trend much more heavily
'keto' unless you LIKE being able to roll down
    hills with yer A1-C of 30 ..........

Next ... making pasta is NOT super-high-tech.
Suitable facilities can be made/expanded in
the USA without TOO much investment.

My CONCERN is that Trump does not have enough TIME
to make a significant boost in American self-reliance.
Depending, factories can take two or five years to
construct ... and US labor is expensive.

IMHO, the biz plan here is to PRETEND they're going
USA ... but REALLY just dragging things out until
(they hope) some super-lefty Dems replace Trump.

So, I guess Trump HAS to go 'fascist'-State and
take over everything, eh ? Otherwise it's all
wasted effort. Bernie and AOC can cool it down
    in Gitmo :-)
