DeSantis signs law creating new hurdles for Florida's
    citizens' initiative process

Sen. Carlos Smith, a Democrat from Orlando, called the
measure 'the final kill shot against direct democracy'

    . . .

First off, the USA is a *republic* - not the
    'direct democracy' Plato thoroughly trashed
    2500 years ago.

SO interesting how the left NOW screams for
'direct democracy' when it spent decades
trying to shut-up popular sentiment :-)

In any case, the main IDEA here is to PREVENT
the California Debacle - endless 'ballot
    initiatives' that short-circuit the system.

Doesn't mean you CAN'T make a ballot initiative,
just that it has to have more serious support.

Last biggie in Florida was the "legalize pot"
thing - which FAILED. Note that Trump said he
didn't care one way or the other ... piddly
    little issue.

Oh, 'health' ... note recent research saying
that pot-smoking makes cancers about five times
    MORE invasive .........

Me, I learned EARLY on that THC and I didn't
get along - no more tokin' since the late 70s
alas. A brother never learned this - he went
all zombie and is DEAD now ... just sayin' ...
reefer didn't cause it, but CONTRIBUTED ....

In any case, can't make it TOO hard, or TOO
easy, to create pop ballot initiatives. Stray
from the SANE bandwidth and bad stuff happens.
There's a practical logic to republics and
it's generally best in the Big Picture.
