Major US city suffers mass internet outage as Comcast warns
'deliberate acts of vandalism' to blame

A massive internet outage struck the city of Houston Friday
afternoon, and one of the area's biggest providers said they
believe it was an intentional act of vandalism.

Comcast, which provides internet services under their Xfinity
brand, said they determined that there had been 'several
back-to-back acts' of vandalism which had disrupted their
    telecommunication lines.

Comcast officials also confirmed they're working with law
enforcement to find out who was responsible.

    . . .

Hmmmmmm ... I get Comcast cable TV - and the past couple
of days there HAVE been weird cut-outs - everything just
    freezes for several minutes.

Yea yea, Comcast IS over-priced ... but that's not
the issue here - cyber-terrorism is. If they can
get at Comcast they can get at ANYONE.

Is it Vlad or Xi or Kim ? Not clear yet. MIGHT just
be malicious little twerps looking for a laugh. We
shall see. Prob is that TOO MUCH of How The World
Works now DEPENDS on reliable net ... hacks can
NOT be tolerated. Put the spooks/mil on this -
and Gitmo-level penalties for the perps.

Face the horrible truth - the online stuff has
become SO complex and deep that NOBODY can defend

    ?Que?

Bad, bought, employees ARE an issue. Xi buys
    many insiders by all reports.

Look ... this is all *war* - by indirect means.
The 'bombs' are computer hacks, infrastructure
back-doors. MORE damaging than high explosives,
    maybe even some nukes.

Xi probably DOES have the Big Shiny Red Button
on his desk ... the one that will SHUT DOWN
    the west.

ALL our fault - we went for quick-n-easy-n-pretty.
The actual CODE required, WAY too big/complex to
properly secure. I've checked some, VAST quantities
of infrastructure runs on WINDERS ... forever a
    security cluster-fuck.

Hey, just TURN OFF those cooling pumps on the
nuke reactors ......... get the picture ?
Ready to ROT TO DEATH from the results ?

Yea, yea, yea ... yer masters say that American
capitalism is the Worst Thing EVER in the history
of the world - and since you slept through EVERY
history course you BELIEVE that .......

Want an IT infrastructure ... just gonna say,
BSD Unix. Won't be pretty, but it'll get it
done kinda securely. 'Adequate', but not
    overly exposed.

In the middle of installing a BSD on one of my
mini-PCs right now. That's where I'm gonna keep
my most sensitive info and security stuff. This
is a HOME system ... BIZ/GOVT needs to do MUCH
better. DON'T make it easy for Xi.

Just telling the TRUTH here. It's my area of
    expertise. Don't LIKE it ?

Even in my minimal-interest last job, I went
to trouble to deeply encrypt the online
backups - Just In Case. FORGET corporate
    promises/systems.

My replacements TRUST M$ ... and are GONNA get
horribly SCREWED soon enough. Oh well, no
    longer my problem ...........
