House Speaker Mike Johnson defended stock
trading as a necessary income boost that
allows members of Congress to "take care
    of their family."
    May 15

    Johnson noted that Congressional salaries
have been frozen since 2009 while speaking
to press on Wednesday. "When you adjust for
    inflation...Congress today is making 31%
less than they made in that year. It goes
    down every year," he said.

"If you stay on this trajectory, you're
going to have less qualified people who
are willing to make the extreme sacrifice
to run for Congress," Johnson warned. "At
least let them, like, engage in some stock
trading so that they can continue to take
    care of their family."

The practice of Congress members engaging
in stock trading has come under a renewed
    scrutiny following Trump's announcement
of sweeping tariffs placed on trade
partners around the globe. Many of the
    tariffs have since been renegotiated,
with the market reacting to news of
    administrative policy changes. >https://www.latintimes.com/mike-johnson-argues-congress-needs-stock-tradin >g-support-their-families-due-frozen-salaries-583098

When I retired at age 60, did I get free ObamaCare?
    Fuck NO, didn't qualify.

    Here's the deal I got:

    The ObamaCare premium -- $8,400 / year
    The deductible -- $8,000 / year

So effectively the Democrat's "insurance" didn't reimburse anything until I had paid $16,400 for the year.
    Jan 1, the deductible reset.

Apparently Queen Nancy Piglosi was too busy insider trading to bother to negotiate a useful healthcare plan for the taxpayers.
Lazy Piglosi just signed the bill as written by the lobbyists.

    Life before Obamacare.

    Health insurer tied bonuses to
    dropping sick policyholders
    November 09, 2007

One of the state's largest health
insurers set goals and paid bonuses
based in part on how many individual
    policyholders were dropped and how
    much money was saved.

    Woodland Hills-based Health Net
    Inc. avoided paying $35.5 million
    in medical expenses by rescinding
    about 1,600 policies between 2000
    and 2006. During that period,
it paid its senior analyst in
    charge of cancellations more than
$20,000 in bonuses based in part
on her meeting or exceeding annual
    targets for revoking policies,
    documents disclosed Thursday showed. http://articles.latimes.com/2007/nov/09/business/fi-insure9

Blue Cross praised employees who dropped sick policyholders
    June 17, 2009

"Blue Cross of California encouraged employees through
performance evaluations to cancel the health insurance
policies of individuals with expensive illnesses, Rep.
Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) charged at the start of a
congressional hearing today on the controversial practice
    known as rescission."

"WellPoint's Blue Cross of California subsidiary and
two other insurers saved more than $300 million in
medical claims by canceling more than 20,000 sick
policyholders over a five-year period, the House
committee said. When times are good, the insurance
company is happy to sign you up and take your money
in the form of premiums," Stupak said. "But when
times are bad, and you are afflicted with cancer or
some other life-threatening disease, it is supposed
to honor its commitments and stand by you in your
time of need, instead, some insurance companies use
a technicality to justify breaking its promise, at
a time when most patients are too weak to fight back."

An investigation by the House Subcommittee on Oversight
and Investigations showed that health insurers WellPoint
Inc., UnitedHealth Group and Assurant Inc. canceled the
coverage of more than 20,000 people, allowing the companies
to avoid paying more than $300 million in medical claims
    over a five-year period.

It also found that policyholders with breast cancer,
lymphoma and more than 1,000 other conditions were
targeted for rescission and that employees were praised
in performance reviews for terminating the policies of
    customers with expensive illnesses.

"No one can defend, and I certainly cannot defend,
the practice of canceling coverage after the fact,"
said Rep. Michael C. Burgess (R-Tex.), a member of
the committee. "There is no acceptable minimum to
    denying coverage after the fact."

them? You *do* know that they're not protected from being fired by a Union...right?

When I retired at age 60, did I get free ObamaCare?

So then why did you retire at age 60? As lazy as the people you're
bitching about? Don't you know that the GOP wants to raise the SS
minimum retirement age again, up to age 69?

    Fuck NO, didn't qualify.

    Here's the deal I got:

    The ObamaCare premium -- $8,400 / year
    The deductible -- $8,000 / year

So effectively the Democrat's "insurance" didn't reimburse anything
until I had paid $16,400 for the year.
    Jan 1, the deductible reset.

And what would it have been before the ACA?

Plus the ACA has income requirements in order to receive subsidies, so
all you're doing is whining that you're not dirt poor.

The 2025 income limits for a couple to qualify for financial assistance
within the Health Marketplace is 400% of the Federal Poverty Level,
    which is $81,760/yr.

In any event, if you would have continued working until age 65, you
would have skipped this to go right onto Medicare, which for a MFJ
income of less than $212K/yr in 2023 is $259/mo, as per IRMAA brackets. Likewise, Part B is $185/mo, so taken together, its ($259+$185)*12= $5,328/year, plus whatever you choose to elect for a drug plan ("D"):
seems like you're complaining about having not thought this through.

Bullfuckingshit! The lazy lying staffers couldn't be bothered.

Apparently Queen Nancy Piglosi was too busy insider trading to bother
to negotiate a useful healthcare plan for the taxpayers. Lazy Piglosi
just signed the bill as written by the lobbyists.

On the advent of Obamacare, the monthly insurance premium for me and
three dependents went from $267 per month / $3,204 yearly, to $704 per
month / $8448 yearly. Same insurance company (Blue Shield) for six
years at the time. The best part was yet to come. As a sole
proprietor, the policy was reclassified because of some Obamacare
requirement, and the monthly premium went to $1197 per month / $14,364
    yearly.

The increases started before Obamacare even passed.

    and then what

Good question, although the statistical answer is that rates continued
to increase, but much more slowly than before.

In looking at my own healthcare insurance costs over the years, one easy
place today to track it is on one's W2 forms, block 12, code DD. For
example, ours in 2020 was $21,334, and by 2022 was down to $19,727/yr
