Good. Now if the Protection Racket Media starts realizing it too, we might actually get somewhere.
For some reason, Democrats apparently never considered what a cover-up on
the Joe Biden scale would do to their reputations. The rise of the Now It
Can Be Told media literary genre has forced them to reckon with the
obvious, which is that (a) everyone knows they lied about Biden's
cognition for years, and (b) no one trusts them. This time the media is
too busy distancing itself with The Owen Maneuver to cover for them, as
Hakeem Jeffries discovered on CNN earlier this week:
The Protection Racket Media is in full survival mode now, especially CNN,
where the network is trying valiantly to defend one of its anchors from
utter credibility collapse. It's now an all-hands-on-deck effort to shift
blame for the Biden cover-up entirely to Democrats at CNN by pretending
that Democrats were responsible for Jake Tapper's embrace of their
narrative. Mark Halperin called it "nothing short of journalistic
corruption" in his podcast yesterday:
Halperin sums up the Now It Can Be Told media literary movement with
succinct accuracy:
And now, everybody in the media is saying, well, we don't need to
acknowledge our own failure. We'll just say that Joe Biden shouldn't have
run, and people like Chuck Schumer should have called him out. That's a
big failure, and it's missing the moment.
Indeed. And now that the Protection Racket Media has gone into survival
mode, they are having to toss Democrats out of the lifeboat. As Politico
notes, that leaves them in a very uncomfortable position with voters, who
at least agree that Democrats lied to them for years about Biden's
condition and are still lying to this day about it. They now have even
more reason to believe that, thanks to the Now It Can Be Told revelations percolating from the upcoming book releases, and half measures won't cut
it:
Just this week, Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut said there was “no doubt” about Biden’s cognitive decline, former Transportation Secretary Pete
Buttigieg conceded the party “maybe” would have done better without him
and Rep. Ro Khanna of California said “Democrats must be honest … Joe
Biden should not have run for reelection.”
But they were the exception. For the most part, leading Democrats — many
of whom attested to Biden’s fitness when he was still on the ticket — are ducking what is fast becoming the first real litmus test of the 2028
campaign. The problem for Democrats is Biden’s blast radius keeps
expanding. It isn’t just the embarrassing accounts dribbling out from a forthcoming book. It’s that so many Democrats with 2028 ambitions were defending him at the time — and are now being forced to answer for what
they knew and when.
When Murphy, in an interview, fessed up to Biden’s diminishing
capabilities, GOP operatives threw months-old comments in face. “This
you??” said an aide to Speaker Mike Johnson on the social media platform
X, pointing to when the Democratic senator had vouched for Biden in the
wake of a damning Wall Street Journal report on the subject.
'Blast radius' is a pretty good analogy, but this is more like a drip-
based water torture. Each drip of information changes the historical
record and exposes the cover-up conspirators by negating their past
excuses. Or perhaps a siege is a better analogy; Democrats stand behind a rhetorical wall, only to watch it collapse as the next shock comes, only
to fall back to a position where the walls have already collapsed from
taking bricks out of it to shore up the previous wall.
At some point, Democrats will start running over each other in the final stages of their credibility collapse. That process may already be
starting, Politico suggests:
Some Democrats argue that their leaders aren’t owning up to the truth
about Biden — and risk keeping the issue alive indefinitely as a result.
They fear that Democrats’ record-low approval ratings are tied, in part,
to their unwillingness to come clean.
They can't come clean and keep their leadership positions, and they know
it. That's why Hakeem Jeffries turned himself into knots to avoid the
questions on CNN earlier this week; there is no honest answer except to
say We lied about Biden because we didn't want to face the consequences.
The problem with avoiding that answer, though, is that every voter who
watched Biden deteriorate over the last four years in an undeniable and
public manner knows Democrat leaders (and the media!) lied, and they know
why they lied.
That's the moment that both Democrats and the Protection Racket Media have missed. And until Democrats hold those leaders accountable, and until shareholders in establishment media companies hold those editors and
talking heads accountable for their lies of commission and omission, this moment may last a very, very very long time.
Politico calls this a litmus test for Democrats in 2026 and 2028. It's
also a litmus test for the Protection Racket Media, and so far they are
failing it ... miserably. They are hoping to lie their way out of accountability for their active role in the Biden cover-up, and make a few bucks out of it along the way.
