The acting head of Fema told colleagues he was not aware
America had a hurricane season, according to a report.
Staff of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema)
were left baffled when David Richardson, who has led the
agency since early May, said he had not been aware the
country has a hurricane season during a briefing on Monday,
according to four sources familiar with the situation.
The US hurricane season officially began on Sunday and
lasts through November. The National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration forecast last week that this
year’s season is expected to bring as many as 10 hurricanes.
A spokesman for the department of homeland security (DHS)
which oversees Fema insisted Mr Richardson was joking when
he made the remark.
. . .
MAYbe it was a (bad) joke ... but it's NEVER a joke
for people who get hit head-on by these mega-storms.
A cat-2+ hurricane is kinda like a tornado, except
50 miles wide AND with FEET of rain.
They also can have extreme effects well outside the
storm core - note the huge tornado attack on the
east Florida coast last year ... ONE outlier feeder
band = large widespread damage/death. That area
basically NEVER sees strong tornadoes. The actual
storm was still out in the Gulf, hadn't even come
close to hitting near Tampa. Witnesses report hearing
roaring sounds, in the middle of an like 8-inch per
minute rainstorm.
SO, it's NO joke.
What FEMA is, how it works, IS unclear. There were
valid reports near Tampa of FEMA supervisors telling
their workers to just ignore places with TRUMP signs
in the yard - hideous persecutory partisanship.
At least Fla govt stands with the victims - and
there's rarely trouble like when New Orleans was
hit. The Gov, and local sheriffs, grant full rights
to blast the shit out of looters, ergo VERY few
looters.
The RESPONSE of FEMA in many other situations, very
questionable. TOO much bureaucracy and paperwork and
red tape ... the LAST shit you need when your town
has been flattened.
Trump kind of wants STATE disaster funds/capabilities
to be improved. The Fed COULD back-up injured states
in bad or overwhelming situations. State-level would
likely be much more responsive - but there's also a
high expense in such "self insurance".
