When Illinois Fighting Illini quarterback Luke Altmyer showed up with his
head coach and a couple of teammates at the 2025 Big Ten Football Media
Days, he was wearing a T-shirt promoting Southeastern University, a small far-right religious school in Lakeland, Florida, with anti-LGBTQ+ views.
The shirt Altmyer wore Sunday was a white T-shirt with a red apple that promoted the Southeastern University worship group, SEU Worship. It had
the title of an SEU Worship song across the apple, "Fruit Takes Time." The shirt is for sale at Store.seuworship.com.
The Telegraph reached out Monday to Illinois Athletics for a comment about Altmyer's decision to wear the shirt and did not receive a response.
Illinois football's accounts on X and Facebook posted a pair of photos
Sunday of Altmyer with Illinois football head coach Bret Bielema,
offensive lineman J.C. Davis, and defensive back Xavier Scott when they
arrived in Las Vegas. The text with the photos said, "Arrived in Las Vegas
in style."

Illinois football's accounts on X and Facebook posted an additional photo Monday that also showed Altmyer wearing the Southeastern University shirt
while pushing a small suitcase. Monday's social media posts included
additional photos of Altmyer wearing an all-gray shirt.
The Southeastern University website explicity addresses the university's anti-LGBTQ+ stance. The SEU website states, "Human sexuality is to occur between one genetic male and one genetic female within the covenant of marriage." It states that all sexuality outside of that "are illegitimate
moral options."
The university also bans transgender athletes by stating on its website,
"In regard to athletics, we will continue to support our biblical
understanding of affirming an individual’s biological sex as the basis for athletic competition."
Southeastern University is not a large school, with only 2,100 full-time undergraduate students at its Lakeland campus in 2024-25.

Altmyer is scheduled to be the Illinois starting quarterback for the
upcoming 2025 season. Joining him and representing the Fighting Illini at
Big Ten Football Media Days are Bielema, Davis, and Scott. The three-day
Big Ten Media Days are taking place from Tuesday to Thursday at the
Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.
On Sunday night, Altmyer posted to his Instagram story a photo of the
Eiffel Tower Las Vegas lit up in red, white and blue.
Altmyer frequently shares elements of his faith on social media, including
an Instagram post on Dec. 1 that says, "I'm standing here only because
Jesus made a way."
