Ford is axing one of its best-selling models after 26 years.

The Blue Oval automaker will stop production of the Escape
crossover SUV, with final models rolling off dealership
    lots in 2026.

The Escape — initially a $20,000 SUV with boxy shape and a
skirt of plastic cladding — launched in 2000 and became an
    instant hit.

'The Escape pioneered the booming compact crossover segment
that has commandeered the market today,' Robby DeGraff,
from automotive analysts AutoPacific, told the Daily Mail.

Through the years, design refreshes sanded down the boxy
shape and replaced the ruggedness with more refined design..

The latest versions come with either a 1.5-liter three-cylinder
    engine, a 2-liter EcoBoost, a 2.5-liter hybrid, or a 2.5-liter
    plug-in hybrid.

But the vehicle — and its luxury twin, the Lincoln Corsair —
is going the way of the dodo bird to clear a spot on the
carmaker's Louisville, Kentucky production floor for Ford's
    next-generation EV.

    . . .

CLUE Ford ... I'm NOT gonna buy a crappy EV !

Too much coke being snorted at the last executive
    retreat ???

How can US industries compete when they decide to
make what consumers DO NOT WANT ???

'Good' EVs are at least 20 years away. It's largely
the battery tech, but also the relative limitations
    of finding electric charging locations.

For passenger and light industrial vehicles gasoline
will be king for a LONG time. It's everywhere, you
can 'recharge' in four minutes. Hey, no such thing
as a 'gas can' for EVs :-)

I stopped buy the local Ford dealer the other day to pick up a Motorcraft
oil filter and I noticed that they had all the Mach-E Mustangs out in front,
up on those elevated platforms with balloons around them and so forth.
So I asked the parts counter guy why the real Mustangs were literally in the back
    of the lot.

His answer was, they can't give away EV cars while the Mustangs sell themselves.
    Makes sense to me.

At least where I live, nobody wants these fire traps.

Fire is the least of it ....... EVs are just
generally un-usable, esp in the USA where
everything is far away from everything.

When I lived in L.A. circa 1990, going up the hills from L.A. to The Valley,
I saw plenty of vehicle fires; some of those old beaters couldn't
    make it up the hill.
