One injured in shooting at Mayfield High School football game
MAYFIELD, Ky. — One person was injured in a shooting Friday night at the Mayfield High School Battle of the Birds football game, Graves County
Sheriff Jon Hayden confirmed.
The injured person's condition was unclear Friday night.
Local 6's Drayton Charlton-Perrin was on scene and said Kentucky State
Police and other law enforcement had arrived and had cordoned off the site
of the shooting. He said he and others on the scene heard a "pop" sound
they initially thought was a firecracker.
"People seem to be pretty shaken up about this," Charlton-Perrin said.
"This was supposed to be just a fun night of football. It was the opening
game of the season and it turned into this."

Mayfield Police Department said no new information was available as of publication time Friday night. More information is expected to emerge
within the next 24 to 48 hours.
It was unclear Friday night if law enforcement had identified any suspects
in the shooting.
The shooting occurred during the annual Battle of the Birds game between
the Mayfield Cardinals and the Graves County Eagles at Mayfield's War
Memorial Stadium. It was the opening game of the high school football
season.
