Hi folks.
Bill Horne has been wanting to step back from moderator duties for a
while -- quite literally, to spend more time with his family. He asked
me if I knew anyone willing and able to do so, and after determining the
scope of the situation, we agreed that I could and would do it. Over the
last month he has been introducing me to various folks, machines and
processes.
That transition was supposed to happen at the end of this month, but
it's happening now.
Bill's wife Susan informed me that Bill has had a stroke and is in the hospital. He is conscious and rational, so the prognosis is probably
pretty good, but I don't know for certain yet. I wish him the best of
all possible outcomes.

Bill was going to introduce me, and he might have words to write later
on, but in lieu of that I shall introduce myself.
I'm Dan Ritter, dsr@ various domains. I've only been on Usenet since
the year before Eternal September, so I am a relative young'un. I have
worked for tiny, medium and large ISPs, a big CDN, and a small financial services SaaS company. My current position is Director of IT Operations,
but I dream of someday being a senior sysadmin.
I'm not planning on changing the policies of the group much; certainly
not immediately. The website
http://telecom-digest.org could use some reorganizational and infrastructure work, and I think I'm qualified to do that.
If you have comments, suggestions or criticism, I'm always ready to read
it. Send it to me personally, please, rather than to the list/group.
