    click·?bait 'klik-?bat
: something (such as a headline) designed to make readers want to click on a hyperlink especially when the link leads to content of dubious value or interest

It is difficult to remember a time when you could scroll through the
social media outlet of your choice and not be bombarded with: You'll
never believe what happened when … This is the cutest thing ever … This the biggest mistake you can make … Take this quiz to see which character you are on … They are all classic clickbait models.

I know what you mean, but I don't find it that bad (certainly for free).
I certainly recognise your list in your final paragraph - as things to
avoid on YouTube, rather than social media (which I use little). I've
just brought up my YouTube home page, and of the first 12 suggestions,
only two have arrows instead of durations in their bottom right; of the remaining 10, most are things I might click on, though I'd probably give
the two cat ones a miss. Of course, I don't know which ones would have
an ad. on their beginning, but I accept those as the cost of getting it
free; quite often the skip button is present.

I ain't bitch'n about the ads except when Google insists that a Youtube
video must have ads in the middle of even a music video. That's
    ridiculous greed and lttle else.

On the whole, the music videos I watch don't - but then I rarely watch
ones over 4 minutes; maybe that's the difference between us. I do find
them interrupting longer clips (but even then they're usually either
short, or have a skip button once the yellow line gets to the right).

My final word on this: I understand Google/Youtube is allowed to
"charge" for their service. However, I think that Google - as in many
other ways, has gone too far in their overwhelming greed for the dollar.
