I've been a TSO-REXX coder for a few decades now, having made the switch from CLIST when I read somewhere that IBM threatens to stop supporting CLIST entirely eventually. (Eventually I learned that they repeat that threat from time to time, but never
actually do it. Doesn't matter; I'm now a REXX enthusiast.)
I use REXX on my PC only rarely, because normally I figure anything I write for a client should be in a language that the client has access to. Downloading special languages or tools (other than what I write myself) doesn't seem long-term helpful to
paying clients. I did write a util in Regina for one employer.
When I learned about the existence of an object-oriented REXX I lusted after it another few years, but didn't get it because of that same principle. When I finally broke down and get myself a copy, I found that it has a ~lot~ of features that I'll have
to learn incrementally. Where's a good place to ask newbie questions? My paying clients don't have much for me to do right now, so it's a good time to get back into the manuals and dig deeper.
