I am pleased to announce version 1.18 of the scrolling utilities package Scrollutil.
What is new in Scrollutil 1.18?
-------------------------------
1. Added the "adjustsize" subcommand to the scrollednotebook,
plainnotebook, and pagesman widgets (thanks to Harald Oehlmann for
his proposal).
2. The "add" and "insert" plainnotebook subcommands now return the path
name of the widget used for the tab corresponding to the window
specified as subcommand argument.
3. If the tk version is at least 8.7 or the tksvg extension can be
loaded into the interpreter, then all the images used by the
scrollednotebook and plainnotebook widgets are now created as SVG
images that will scale automatically according to the display's real
scaling percentage, which can be greater than 200 (the maximum value
returned by the procedure scaleutil::scalingPercentage). This comes
in handy especially when running Androwish on a tablet or
smartphone.
4. The scaleutil package now scales more styling options of the
ttk::treeview widget and some styling options of a series of widgets
of the "winnative" theme, too.
5. The scaleutil package now supports also the case that on Xfce the
DPI value was set in the "Fonts" tab of the "Appearance" dialog or
(on Linux Lite 5+) via the "HiDPI Settings" dialog, or on MATE it
was set via the "Font Rendering Details" dialog.
6. The scaleutil package now takes into account that current MATE
versions scale the font DPI for HiDPI displays.
7. Extended the themepatch package by support for patching and
unpatching the "alt" theme and by adding the "themepatch::ispatched"
command.
8. If the tk version is at least 8.7 or the tksvg extension can be
loaded into the interpreter, then the "themepatch::patch" command
now uses fully scaling-aware SVG images for drawing the indicators
of the ttk::checkbutton and ttk::radiobutton widgets (again, this
can be a benefit especially for Androwish).
9. Corrected the definition of the "-height" option for the
scrollednotebook widget to be in sync with that for ttk::notebook.
10. Fixed a few bugs related to the comparison of package versions.
11. Several improvements in the demo scripts.
How to get it?
--------------
Scrollutil is available for free download from the Web page
https://www.nemethi.de
The distribution file is "scrollutil1.18.tar.gz" for UNIX and "scrollutil1_18.zip" for Windows. These files contain the same
information, except for the additional carriage return character
preceding the linefeed at the end of each line in the text files for
Windows.
Scrollutil is also included in tklib, which has the address
https://core.tcl.tk/tklib
How to install it?
------------------
Install the package as a subdirectory of one of the directories given
by the "auto_path" variable. For example, you can install it as a
directory at the same level as the Tcl and Tk script libraries. The
locations of these library directories are given by the "tcl_library"
and "tk_library" variables, respectively.
To install Scrollutil on UNIX, "cd" to the desired directory and unpack
the distribution file "scrollutil1.18.tar.gz":
gunzip -c scrollutil1.18.tar.gz | tar -xf -
On most UNIX systems this can be replaced with
tar -zxf scrollutil1.18.tar.gz
Both commands will create a directory named "scrollutil1.18", with the subdirectories "demos", "doc", and "scripts".
On Windows, use WinZip or some other program capable of unpacking the distribution file "scrollutil1_18.zip" into the directory
"scrollutil1.18", with the subdirectories "demos", "doc", and "scripts".
How to use it?
--------------
The Scrollutil distribution provides two packages, called Scrollutil and Scrollutil_tile. The main difference between the two is that
Scrollutil_tile enables the tile-based, theme-specific appearance of scrollarea, scrollsync, and scrollableframe widgets, and provides the
themed scrollednotebook and plainnotebook widgets; this package requires
Tcl/Tk 8.4 or higher and tile 0.8 or higher. It is not possible to use
both packages in one and the same application, because both are
implemented in the same "scrollutil" namespace and provide identical
commands (except for the commands "scrollutil::scrollednotebook", "scrollutil::plainnotebook", "scrollutil::addclosetab", "scrollutil::removeclosetab", and "scrollutil::closetabstate", which are provided by the Scrollutil_tile package only).
To be able to use the commands and variables implemented in the package Scrollutil, your scripts must contain one of the lines
package require scrollutil ?version?
package require Scrollutil ?version?
Likewise, to be able to use the commands and variables implemented in
the package Scrollutil_tile, your scripts must contain one of the lines
package require scrollutil_tile ?version?
package require Scrollutil_tile ?version?
Since the packages Scrollutil and Scrollutil_tile are implemented in the "scrollutil" namespace, you must either import the procedures you need,
or use qualified names like "scrollutil::scrollarea".
For a detailed description of the commands and variables provided by
Scrollutil and of the examples contained in the "demos" directory, see
the tutorial "scrollutil.html" and the reference pages, all located in
the "doc" directory.
